Typically not even as defenders if the terrain is relatively even.  Also makes it harder when we don't have proper horses, enough c-sites, or the same quality mercs.

Daruvian tried to get people to defend for 20 minutes and it blew cock because defending means you don't get to hold down your W key.

I would have attacked too with very high ratio of melee players, we made a point of getting ranged superiority in our merc pool - could hear the collective groan when we spawned in with rain.
