Just the damage for shields.

Could you imagine how overpowered +70 body armor would be?

Shield body armor only affects shield's hit points ,hitting a shield with like 40-50 hit points and 7-8 body armour will be like killing a peasant, for example.

I read here a while ago that putting the shield on your back actually adds the shield armour to your total body armour, but only for back hits against ranged

Kinda , but not only ranged, it has a formula about shields stats that reduces any damage from behind, I think one of the Devs can share it with us?

if hit_shield_on_back:
   armor += shield_resistance + 10

I was just thinking a buckler would be pretty worthwhile for 2 weight if you just leave it on your back (if the defence applies to the whole back). As an actual shield it is pretty useless though against ranged for me

I'm pretty sure shield only covers the part that is actually covered visually.

I'm surprised there aren't more 2h/pole players that take advantage of this. Loom something like a Leather Covered Round Shield, invest a mere 1 point in shield skill, keep it on your back, and just backpedal when approaching archers. You could have 90+ body armor on your back against projectiles this way, and it only costs you 1 skill point and 4 kg of weight.

ok:

pro:
- high armor when shield is hit
- archers might die from laughter

contra:
- slower(no sprint, extra weight, backwards is slower by default)
- harder to dodge(inverted+"look around key" needed)
- archers can aim for lower body or head (no forcefield)
- looks retarded

Bucklers currently go on your left hip, unfortunately.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

I was thinking the game might give a blanket +armour bonus for back hits, but seems not. Its probably code from when back hits from arrows got stuck in shields like they are deployed?

Anyway i'm currently testing out Plate Covered Round Shield. If I read this right its 61 + 10 so 71 extra back armour if something hits the shield. So with my plate 144 armour in that area. Still nothing beats eliminating damage entirely so don't think its a substitute for deploying it, just in a melee fight it might be alright, though it weighs nearly 8

Hm, I doubt that shield resistance means armor, i think its something else only shown in game ?
