You might like Stalker, though its largely thought provoking because its quite a slow moving story with occasional philosophical bits. Just make sure you have time set aside to watch it all the way through without getting distracted. 2001 has kind of a similar style

Blade Runner is quite thought provoking. Spoilers ahead, don't read if you haven't watched it
(click to show/hide)

TBH I'd read anything by Philip K Dick if you want that type of thing, or maybe get audiobooks if there are any

Oh, also David Chronenburg did some weired films. Naked Lunch, Videodrome etc.

Watch the Bladerunner directors cut.

ASS TO ASS!! I'd watch again because, Jennifer Connelly.

Trance is a very decent movie. It's not as mindfuck as some others mentioned here, but it's well worth the watch.
Oh oh Shutter Island! Also an amazing mystery movie, fits this topic perfectly.

Incredible movies that also fit this topic:
The Man from Earth (loved this one)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Beautiful Mind
Pandorum
The Ninth Gate
The Fountain
Moon

Great submissions guys! I dare to present the following movie, as i believe it will not spoil the line-up:

K-PAX

Kevin Spacey is a great actor by the way! I wish he would make more movies...

------------------------------------

Not exactly a mystery movie, but a great drama, with an incredible acting, directing and, basically, everything else! Rarely does a single men's performance in a movie, make me feel as uncomfortable, as Daniel Day-Lewis's did in There Will Be Blood. Paul Dano was amazing as support actor - what a memorable role!

Although my love for this movie, might have something to do with my grandfather being a very close copy of main character... So I might be relating to it on a different level.. Still! A superb drama!

There Will Be Blood

I believe this scene will stay with me forever :D

Drainage! Dra-a-aaaa-aaaainaa-aaa-aage!

Ugh, Cormac McCarthy (All the Pretty Horses). Studied it in English put me off for life.

I'm not one who can tell the difference between a good book and a bad one, if its one i enjoy reading (has a cool setting, action and not too cheesy characters) I don't care how bad the writing is or what not
Same goes with movies

That being said, i still think you should give both the book and the movie a try, I thought they were very good

The Road is an epic movie... I wish they would do sequels to it non-related to the first movie... like other random characters in another part of the world but same time period... Or have the main characters be the bad guys for once.

Wish more movies were as good as "the road".

Prisoners is a decent character thriller that I believe didn't get the reception it deserved.

Blue Ruin is a painfully realistic revenge flick.

Locke proves that Tom Hardy is mesmerizing, even if he's the only actor you see in an entire film.

I have a feeling you'd also appreciate anything by Martin Scorcese. I mean, who doesn't, really?

Since there's quite a few of The Road fans here, I've seen this a few days ago and it's pretty decent:
The Last Days

The Rover is also a good movie, imo.
