18/18 is still the way to go if you want to be a true hybrid. Having 6 of every stat is just awesome.

This fish speaks the truth.

I roll the same build and it's awesome.

Decide wether you want to make a build for level 30 and retire again at 31 or make a level 31 build. Karp's build is for level 31...

Anything between 24/12 and 12/24 is usable as a pole cav build. I forgo IF to max out the other, more critical skills (Powerstrike, Shield, Athletics, Riding and Weapon mastery). If you want the build to be 'finished' at level 30, you convert 2 skill points into 1 attribute point.

Well, Ironflesh is an underestimated  imo. I had the same opinion in the past, that it was useless, but the difference between 0 and 6 if is amazing. Especially with the buff to hp lately. 12/24 just downright lacks power, 24/12 lacks enough weapon master to be effective in heavy armour.

My build is for level 31, yup, got that right. I'll go 21/18 if I ever get to level 34 xD.
Don't mind the fish.

Agreed, i guess you are right. In my shield-heavy builds there is no room for IF, but i agree it's an important and underestimated skill. Also agreed that the 24/12 and 12/24 builds are a bit gimpy. 18/18 with all except shield or riding at 6 is still my personal favorite cav build for retiring, though.

I got shield at 3, it's fine, if you want it at 4, one point of ironflesh isn't gonna hurt much.
Don't mind the fish.

21/18 is an extreme pure cav build. You need to give up on a lot of skills, it can be difficult to play sometimes but i like it a lot.
Next retirement i will try this, now i have a little different build (this one is for lvl31 while now i have a lvl30 build)

    * Strength: 21
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 70

    * Skills to attributes: 6

    * Ironflesh: 7
    * Power Strike: 7
    * Shield: 0
    * Athletics: 0
    * Riding: 6
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 0
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 6

    * Polearm: 157
This one is more a heavy cav build with heavy lance, backup polearm and a slow horse, but can used effectively also by a light lancer.
Heavy lance is slow as hell so you need to put all your wprof in it. If you want to do the 1h/pole hybrid i suggest using a light lance or a lance.
With so much prof you can also use effectively the heavy lance with heavy armour.
No shield, so i can bring an hafted blade or some other 2slots polearm. Also no Ath so i can put points in IF wich is good, without shield you will take a lot of arrows.
6 Riding is also nice and you can see it's faster then 4 o 5 riding, especially when climbing hills.

Yep... nice and indeed extreme cav build Sharky, but i'd never go for a 0 athletics build myself. I think it's best to try and make builds that are good on foot and on a horse.

Cut 4-5 in IF, put in ATH and voila, you have a decent on foot build too.

Yes giving up on IF and put more points in Ath is probably the best. Or just convert less points doing a 21-15 or 18-18
But if you plan have the most fun while you use heavy lance + heavy armours and heavy horses (you have to avoid to be dehorsed) while not giving up on high riding (6 riding means fast even with a chata), high PS (with 7ps you 1shot a lot) and survivability (IF and the high strenght) my build is the way to go  :wink:

Well, i've decided not to retire anymore, and i've settled on this build for lvl 32;

Equipment:
Heavy lance
Heater shield
1H cleaver

Light Kuyak
Nordic huscarl helmet
Splinted greaves with spurs
mail mittens

Stats:
Level 32 (17 784 806 xp)

Strength: 21
Agility: 18
Hit points: 56
Skills to attributes: 4
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 4
Athletics: 6
Riding: 6
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 6
One Handed: 50
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 153
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

great for both cav and on-foot (siege in start ie.)
the 50 1h wpf doesnt take much away from polearm, so it's fine with MW eavy lance, and it is extremely nice to be able to use 1h on foot when you also have a shield.

btw, it is upkeepable if you have a high average multiplier, but you mgiht loose some money if you dont.

But 1h + shield with only 50 prof is slow and doesn't deal much damage

i'm using the soldeirs cleaver (low tier cleaver) for upkeep-concerning reasons, and i still manage to kill several enemies after getting dismounted - i've killed 5+ enemies and survived the round a few times, too

edit: it is also great for support purposes
