gonna buy unless it's a fucking garbage port like GTA4, which frankly it can't be. Still gonna torrent it though.
You should be punished for having a shitty attitude.

So.... don't share? Nobody was suggesting you should be sharing GTA 5, I'm pretty sure the suggestion was to download it.

The problem is people don't disable seeding, so they get rekt by the authorities.

Or that's what I've heard.

Torrenting very popular or german music/movies could get you in trouble fast as well.

If you torrent older stuff it should be fine, even with seeding enabled.

There's a difference between being one in a million unlucky and uploading illegal torrents regularly.

The concept is simple in Germoney:

A lawyer goes to a specialized IT-company and asks them to get him IP addresses.
Company starts seeding a fake popular named file and collects every German IP connecting to it and starts seeding too.
After a few days the company provides the lawyer with 10k IP addresses.
Lawyer goes with those to a judge and asks him nicely "They are all criminal scum. Can I haz names and RL addresses of dem plox?"
Judge says yes because he doesn't know anything about the technical background and is too lazy to inform himself and hands out names and addresses.
Lawyer writes to every single person of those 10k and demands 1200€ or he will get you in front of the court.
Most pay.
??
Profit.

And last time I checked, you'll only get a decent download speed by seeding appropriately. Maybe that changed but always was the concept of torrent.
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

Not seeding when downloading puts you in the same category as H!tler, Stalin and Gabe Newell

Sounds like the business strategy of all telecom companies ever. I suppose the appropriate response is to be part of the minority that doesn't cave in to bullying?

Ignoring won't work.
They gonna keep sending letters to some point and then they sell their claim off to someone is actually visits you to get the money.
My way out was to pay a IT-specialised lawyer 200€ to avoid paying 1200€.

that's not how torrents work
Well, yea, it does... that's the whole concept of P2P.

You don't upload to a seeder, only small bits of information that at most will be 10 kb/s, depending on your speed. Use a VPN if you're that paranoid.

Where exactly did I write about uploading to a "seeder"? o_O

And it has hardly anything to do with paranoia.

You wrote this:

'And last time I checked, you'll only get a decent download speed by seeding appropriately.'

This implies you think that a user needs to seed to get appropriate download speed, which isn't true.

For me it always was.
Without upstream there used to be no downstream.

Without upstream there used to be no downstream.

I've noticed this too, and it is pretty easy to test. I tried capping my upload speed at 0.0kbs or even 0.1kbs and while this is possible it always tanks my download speed to somewhere near 50kbs. Once I lift the upload cap the download speed jumps to over 1mb/s.

All in all you will only upload around a couple hundred megabytes but it seems that in Germany its not about how much you uploaded, but that you uploaded.

Torrenting isn't worth the risk to everyone, it doesn't have anything to do with paranoia. It has a small risk, greater if in Germany apparently, but it is still a risk.

I still think watching a review video by a youtuber is a much easier, faster, with absolute 0 risk, way to see if a game is decent.
