Dafuq is passive mode?

Press M to bring up the menu then disable passive mode (can't use guns and attack, but you also can't get attacked by other players).

So I just played some Online.

What's the point of it, unless you're playing with friends?

It's just one giant deathmatch. Which, you know, would be fine.... if death had ANY consequence. OR killing someone was... worth anything. I was killing like 20 people for every 1 death with my .50 cal pistol, yet all I got was -5000 dollars for the ammo spent. People just shooting each other in the streets, some of the higher leveled players standing in the middle of the roads with bazookas (only way anyone killed me, at least it was fun when I was totally red and people started hunting me... but pointless)

So am I missing something or what. I mean, they should at LEAST make you drop all the money on you if you die.

I think freeroam online is more for just fucking around with your friends and doing silly thing together, while the rest of the people are KOS, or you are being KOSed. Most of the serious "consequence" PvP happens in missions/jobs, I guess. They should add more stuff to do in free roam though, I agree. Maybe some bigger robberies where other players could stop you or even play as cops and get rewarded.

I just think it's a hell of a wasted opportunity. Freeroam could be so much more fun, and it'd self-policy better, if dying and killing had more of a consequence. Now there's no reason NOT to shoot anyone in sight. If you die - whatever. If you don't - whatever.

Would be like GTA: DayZ if they just changed a few little things. But still seems like fun if you're with a crew, was really surprised by how good the netcode was even in the fast cars.

Me and my brother played a lot yesterday. We both bought 10k sports bicycles and we went for a 1 hr ride up to the mountains. Stop driving and go for the healthier option.

I think death consequences were worst before, but because some people made it their Jihad to just KOS everyone at every possible chance when some people wanted to try be more peaceful and cooperative, they reduced the death penalty. The more you death match on freeroam the worse your mental states get which makes you more of a target as people get more RP for killing you, at least that's what it seemed to suggest on the things I read.

I played some stuff with Keech, Jacko and Kafein and had a laugh, if we can get quite a few of us on there will definitely be plenty of lols.

Back on PS3 my conclusion on freeroam (and to some degree activities too) was that unless you were playing with friends or at least friendly people it's always pointless KOS. On top of that it's not even fun to just kill other players randomly, so I can only imagine that most of the people actively doing that are either clueless or kids and probably both. Sometimes when the server decides to introduce objectives (crates and cars) it can be fun even with randoms, but that's still rare. We absolutely need to gather in the CYKA crew :)

Last time I played was a long time ago so I'm discovering a lot of new activities, some of them seem really fun. And they improved a lot on the existing ones. They added no collision races, an option to disable minimap blips, forced perspective, nerfed vehicle shooter AI (AI in cars used to be shooting a death ray), etc.

Freeroam is indeed a missed opportunity. It could be fixed if for starters there were no minimap blips and more things to do outside of killing others. The existing objective-based events are good but they don't play even remotely often enough.

Got into a little friendly dispute over who got the biggest gun. Went to get a haircut and I found out he followed me and planted this outside.

I actually had more random people online just ignore and drive past me rather than KOS me. We sometimes decide to hunt reds and bounties which can be fun. I only did one heist so far (the introduction one), and even though it's supposedly much easier than others, it was fun. It's like Payday2 inside GTA world.

On console ''back in the day'' i used to just kill ppl like crazy and setup roadblocks with ambushes, but right now i don't necessarily do it. I just get on my bike and equip unarmed slot and give everyone the middlefinger. If they then attack me i'll equip my rocket launcher and blow their ass to pieces and cry as my mental state rises or i get bad sport nurfff

They could also make a shit ton more with crews in the open world. They could make like a Crew War, where killing enemy crew members would get you points and when reaching a certain point limit, one of the Crews would win the War and they would all get shitloads of money or something. Also Crew bases. There's so many options here it's unbelievable, I just hope Rockstar doesn't stop adding new things to Online.
