Eliminate or restructure Reach Bonus for mounted players

Mounted players currently get a % reach bonus and I'm not sure why. They do not lean off the side of their horse when they swing and it's not more than a normal person would lean when they swing a weapon. If you felt they should get a reach bonus for leaning off their horse which they dont do in this game, then make it a static bonus not a % of the weapon length. The weapon animation doesnt correctly reflect their reach in game so its impossible to know their real reach which causes many players to overcompensate blocks when a mounted player is riding by them. A static bonus (if you really think is necessary) would be more beneficial for everyone.

This was my impression anyways, i could've sworn a dev told me they get 20% reach bonus on horse.

An example is longsword right / left swing on horseback has a ton of ghost reach.

Lancers get a bonus because you hold the lance with a one handed grip that is closer towards the end then a normal polarm grip. I believe it is +30 length but I could be wrong on that.

I've not heard of this % reach bonus.  I thought the only bonuses were due to animations.  What is this % bonus and how did you hear of it?

You're talking about the stupid ghost reach of 1h cav?

Miles away from me on my screen, I don't block, swing passes without a collision of models, still I die. Extremely annoying...

I've played cav (1h and lance cav) and have seen my weapon pass right through people and whiff more times than I can count.

What is the opposite of ghost reach?  I think that is what we are dealing with here.

The positions on your screen are not always what the server sees, especially when speedy movement (such as, being on horseback) is involved. There's no % increase to reach beyond what is given by the animations and is strictly additive.

I don't entirely buy that. Run two horses together and a sword will somehow go past the enemies horses neck and head, past your horses neck and head too, and still give you a full damage hit.

Of course, cavalry being able to swing through their horses head as though it were mist has always been a secretly annoying mechanic in the game to me.

the point is that  you can easily dodge cav, i think standing their and stopping their horse is always kind of risky

Of what?  Pokey polearms get more reach on foot when using a shield (aka thrusting with 1 hand) the same is true on horse back.  I don't believe 1h or 2h get any additional reach in the animations from horse, they would be the same "ghost" reach that happens on foot.  Most weapons get an additional reach to their actual animations

Actually I'm fairly sure the 1h/2h cav ghost reach + missing when it is totally hitting impressions are due to swing height and the overall funky hitboxes of people when hitting above the head. Mounted swing animations are divided into multiple heights that all have different trajectories, out of which the most horizontal one has greatest horizontal reach (makes sense). The problem is that even though that one looks like it isn't hitting anything because too high, it does connect with heads. Inversely, mounted swings missing even when you clearly hit are often due to swinging too low.

I'm going to guess they get the normal animation reach they'd get on foot...almost every weapon type and swing direction give some sort of "bonus" reach (aka ghost reach)...would have to ask a dev to confirm for sure though.  But I've never noticed any difference between the reach on foot versus horse
