for me all started with mount &blade with fire and sword, whih i randomly found (that old one on old mount and blade engine) than came mount & blade itself (ofcourse cracked version (sue me)) than came warband (ofcourse cracked version as well , than i discovered that there are cracked servers (didnt know much about online gaming back then) and i got hooked up on PW mod, than troubles with cracked warband beggin taleworlds DDOS'ed cracked servers etc so i got bored and finaly decided to buy game so now i am here .
PWMod is probably my favorite mod of all of Warband...it's just that all the servers that ran it were fucking terrible. Either they wanted to force you into their version of role-play, which required you type every fucking thing you were doing. For example you couldn't walk in and start robbing a castle's coffers, you had to type something like "Looks suspiciously at the coffers" and then stand there for 5 minutes to give them time to respond.
Or they had terrible rules for faction combat, as in "You must declare war in person, give them 5 minutes to prepare, once you die the war is over" etc.
I can see those rule sets if the game you're playing is a MUD (text based game) from 1985, but it's 2012 (was 2011) and we're playing a graphical game where you can see someone's actions. If someone pulls out a weapon on you in real life, you're going to take it as a threat, so I consider someone pulling out a weapon on me and me responding (without ever typing) to be role playing...If someone's aiming a loaded crossbow at you, it's a pretty clear sign that they're threatening you. And if you don't respond appropriately, you may die (or you may take your chances and try to kill them).
If you have guards posted on your bridge to your castle and some guy runs by ignoring your commands to stop, he's clearly a threat and can be dealt with appropriately. But the admins would get in a tizzy if you warned him to stop and he ran off if you didn't type "I will kill you if you ignore me again" (which is pretty hard to do in a laggy server with the guy running full speed away from you)
I agreed with the rules about randoming, but role play (in graphical video games) is a hell of a lot more than typing your actions.
Such a shame, because it's a very very good mod (and the modder even said he didn't like that the only servers running it were role play servers, it was meant more as a "faction vs faction vs faction vs faction" game where you're vying for control of the castles, resources, and cities.
