I've never understood...

... people taking their characters name from a book and then not using what that character would of. I mean, they've used the name because they like the character but they don't follow through.
It's just odd to me.

Taking names from any piece of writing is really gay. Especially if you pick something that is popular right now. All the A Song of Ice and Fire names make me sick, almost as bad as the 14 Aragorn's we have roaming around.

The only person I consider a great name RP'er is Balien_de_Ibdelin in NA servers. He even made his own faction so he could have the banner. Uses nothing but what you see in kingdom of heaven.

Because people like an image but are shitty little munchkins with zero taste in fashion and metagame the hell out of the gear and builds and thus ruin aforementioned image.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

There's enough knights in A Song of Ice and Fire books to still be obscure and not be overly used.

I guess I didn't care or am not that creative enough to come up with a correct era-themed name.

FU, used the name Oberyn on cRPG before GOT ever came on the air /hispter/nerd. And even then minor character.

Correct era-themed name doesn't matter, call yourself spongebob for ll I care :P
But it's when you call yourself "2nd Legion Cato" from Bernard Cornwalls (I think it was him) books and then use a katana. Etc etc

Saw a dude named Eldest, and Arya, why couldn't they use the name character names out of the books, isntead they named themselves after the title, and some secondary character

If that wasn't enough, one of them wasn't a dragon and the other didin't have pointy ears, such...pfft

I agree completely. I myself naturally tend to go away from mainstream culture.

My personal favourite is still GOT names. I've seen like 5 Robbs in cRPG. I don't even count the jaime lanisters anymore.

Anyway I think I found a good balance with Kafein. It's short, easy to remember, to spell and to pronounce for most people I play with, and I have yet to find any website/service where it is used by someone else.
