I like to compare HX to the pistol cavalry in The Deluge.
They were annonying.

So now you got to reload a pistol at slow speed.

Poor Anders was never mentioned before...  :cry:

Yeah he was one for a while before roh was but I think with roh being more well-known plus his ability to stay alive until the very end made it more popular. Hence that whole "roh started this whole HX popularity" thing.

In any case though I don't see any reason to nerf HX. They're not a great class unless played by someone that can actually do well with it.

It's a story very similar to "WoW was teh first MMO!"

That being said, forcing HX to slow down to reload is one of the best balancing suggestions that has come up. However, nerfing the combat potential of HXs will make almost all of the remaining HX players vanish. A full stop would kill the class, but slowing down from a full gallop to a trot or a canter would be acceptable.

I'm going to have to agree with this.  HX can be annoying, but they're not particularly powerful, and they're usually very easily counterable with a nice wall, tree or other structure.  If you're engaging them 1 v 1 in the open as infantry then you're making a poor strategic decision.

They're also already incredibly fragile due to their extremely low strength.  Nerfing the single strong point of the build, the high movement speed, will kill it just as surely as if crossbow use on horseback was removed entirely.  At that point I can see people switching to 10/30 10 athletics 190 wpf crossbow builds to get their jollies, and I'd be willing to bet watching one of those kite infantry at the end of the round would be just as irritating.

Also, I don't like it when games nerf or buff classes based just on damage given/taken. I like for each and every class to be unique. Now I have not played HX or HA. But to me, they don't see all that different. HX gets longer reloads but more damage? HA gets faster shots but less dmg? That really doesn't seem too different to me.

For example, I wouldn't mind if they BUFFED the crossbow dmg from horseback, and then forced them to stop to reload. This would then make the class unique, as it would have to be very careful with its shots, and careful with where/how they choose to reload. It would also promote variations of the build, where someone might come charging into battle, fire a bolt, then switch to a sidearm, fight it out. Then when all is safe, reload and do it again elsewhere. Also it would promote the use of the HX as sniper support, moving from location to location quickly to aid sniper fire for teammates.

good idea, being stationary would make it a much more balanced class IMO.

at +3 steel bolts and +3 light crossbow, with a 7/33 build, they're just completely insane as it is right now

(190+wpf and 5 horse archery skill ..)
