I'm just sour because even my favorite MMORPG ruleset of all time (Ultima Online) even started caving in and catering to the 12 year old cry babies and the casual gamers. I miss non-instanced dungeons (you had to compete for resources). I miss the loot drops in PvP (made you have to decide what was worth wearing into the world, less emphasis on pixel crack, and more emphasis on risk vs reward). I miss the criminal system. You could loot an actual player's corpse, but if they were a non-criminal, it would make you a criminal (and people could attack you or do other "aggro" actions on you like stealing from you, without them turning criminal). If you killed too many friendlies, then you were marked as a Player Killer (basically a long term criminal).
The thing I don't miss, is the terrible combat system of "click to attack someone" and the macro whores. But it did get a lot of things right, until ultimately, the World of Warcrack style of MMORPG took a strangle hold on the market. Similar to BF/COD in FPS games.
