How are people able to upkeep their characters?
« on: August 04, 2012, 08:15:21 am »

I am on my first character, a level 26 thrower with a kettle-hat, heraldic mail with coif, chain boots, and 3 Jarid slots.

It seems like EVERY round I play (maybe 75 percent of the time), I have to pay 2k to repair everything. So in the end, I lose all of my money and I have to have incredibly terrible peasant armor to get any money.

thing is, I'm not seeing this being a problem for anybody else, because day after day I see tin cans having the ability to keep the most expensive armor and swords every round, all day long.

So the question is, how are these people doing it? Is there some sort of trick?

Thanks in advanced.

3 stacks of jarids are more expensive than any weapon in the game.  plus if you dont have very high proficiency your chance that you will need repairs on these THREE items is increased

stop using jarids or carrying 3 of them

They lose money, but they have a large buffer, so it doesn't really matter.

If you want to always wear your best equipment (no matter what multi) with one character you can do it by having another character support it's cause.

I suggest you make an alt character with a different build and playstyle than your main, which adds to the varition of your gameplay making it more fun.
Make it a melee infantry character with 100% in either 1H, 2H or polearm.

Use nothing but clothes or medium armour and good weapon (doesn't have to be expensive).

Example of a solid build and playstyle which can be both very effective, fun and cheap:

Level 30:

21/21
7PS 7AT 3IF
100% polearm

The ultimate weapons for this build is either the pike or the long maul.
Just switch between them for totally different playstyles.

If you want less upkeep just use some lower tier weapon.

I would not be able to play with my best equipment every round on my main (lancer) unless I had alt characters supporting it.
I don't just farm gold with my low upkeep alt characters. I enjoy playing them.

here is simple formula to answer your question.

run like peasant 1st generations + sell your 1st loompoint= never worry about upkeep again.
people are like potatoes, they come in different shapes and sizes and they all are beautifull
masturbating while looking in a mirror isnt wrong unless its the rear view mirror and you are driving a school buss.

it doesnt matter if you are happiest person or an unfortunate weeper, a powerfull beast or a terrifying creature. we are all equal, in the eyes of the reaper.

Do not play as:

1) heavy cav
2) thrower cav
3) HA using bodkins
4) hybrid archer using bodkins
5) full plate retard
6) knight with a crossbow and no wpf in it

and you'll be fine.

(click to show/hide)

I wouldn't suggest going light cav either.
With an arabian warhorse and heavy lance for example, you will lose much gold unless you have a high average multiplier.

I make shit load of money riding a rouncey with MW light lance + +3 reinforced tribal warroutfit with pilgrim hood and top score alot on open plain maps by couch couch couch couch.

then when i get x5 i switch to +3 course with normal gear  ;p

Well. Rouncey is 1/2 the cost of an arabian.
Also, like I said, you obviously don't have a low average multiplier either

Are you a pure thrower?  If not what is your weapon proficiency?  A good rule of thumb for making money is to keep you total gear cost near 20k,  some people have great luck and can use much more than that but I wouldn't rely on luck.

Also if your a thrower your armor is too heavy giving you a weapon prof decrease also.  You need your throwing to be around 120 or so after weight decrease is factored.

you can make money if you instead of heavy lance use lance and wear less armor.

Wear something that has low repair, seems my bear paw shoes keep getting dmg so that I have 0 upkeep every round. Even through I use a Courser, Bec, katana, strange armor, leather gloves.

I have saved a little over a million by wearing certain gear at certain levels. 1-10, naked with wooden sword or short spear. 11-20 Wear leather armor only with a slightly better weapon but still very cheap. 21-29 I wear something decent, and at level 30 is the only time I wear good gear. At a x3+ I put on my best gear. Most of my gens have been cav with over 50k in total cost, but I won't use the expensive horses until 27+. I've saved a million this way so it can be done, you just need to be mindful of cost at lower levels.
