Learn to read and act accordingly on the opponent's moves when fighting a 1hander. When he prepares a right-to-left attack, beware of the extended reach. A dodge or sway counter attack might be too risky here. Instead it is a good opportunity to go in close because that attack tends to bounce easily when it is outside of its sweetspoot.
It's the opposite when he does a left-to-right attack. It is fast, has forgiving sweetspots and one should always expect a follow-up swing because it is chainable to a certain degree. But it has a short range and usually invites a sway attack with simple stepping outside of its short reach while doing a counter attack.
