CLANG: swordfighting game

I don't know if this has been posted yet, so I apologize if this is a repost, but... this looks much better than War of the Roses or whatever it's called, and even though they're only designing it for dueling, and even though it's still only a Kickstarter, I figure the cRPG community will be interested in either a "that's awesome" or "that sucks" kind of way.

Sounds very promising.  I like the idea that they aren't trying to encompass everything, and will leave open the possibility of other companies or individuals using their existing data/technology and adding more content on top of it.

Someone give me a short summary or TL;DR version.

The guys voice in vid is soooo fucking monotone. I mean jeeeez, almost fell asleep watching this. So give me a short summary of what it is.

Yeah, very interesting. Neal stephenson was always one of my favorite novelist. The voice is little dull, but he is getting a lot cooler with this project.

Well, cRPG is losing its touch with every patch and there is no game right now that can replace it. Really hope they hurry the fuck up with this :P. They seem to have the right approach.

What I would really like to see is the usage of a proper Kinect type of device to make a medieval fighting game based on 1 to 1 input. It would have to be combined with a controller of some sorts ofcourse as you can't move around in your livingroom as you would like to in the game.

Really don't get why the Kinect does not have a controller to go with it, would make for some awesome immersive games. Now you can shoot with 1 to 1 input, but moving and shooting is impossible.

I think this is one of the stories he was talking about. He has a group of buddies who get together and swordfight, and then write stories after. He's been doing this since he decided that his sword fighting tales weren't realistic enough, so he started doing it for real.

I gave this guy a dollar. Im broke but it helps I guess. He seems to be onto the right track, aracade style games are fun, but its time for a more mature game, based on understanding and skill in melee combat, not who has best min/max build and is best at breaking the game engine to exploit oponents.

Am I the only one not at all impressed? looks like m&b wii edition to me. If this excites you so much go play the new zelda game.

first he may be talking generally but he is totally ignorant of existing mele games like m&b, pvkii & others - which are alot more than just press button to swing.

my money is that this won't work at all, but go ahead and give him yours; it will be interesting to see it funded.

edit: also 1v1 dueling is all they are proposing that will be fun for about 10 minutes ;)

Looks like a modern, indy version of Die By the Sword without the fantasy universe.
