Team Death Matchers and Rageball

Not sure where better to put this particular request/rant/plea to the gaming gods.

Okay, so this hasn't been too much of a problem up until now, but this last week there's been a substancial increase of TDMers in the rageball servers. These people aren't there to play rageball, they're literally only there to fight people and have a low respawn time and leech on the multi of the people who are actually playing the game mode. This has got to stop! It's ruining the game for those of us who actually want to play.

I'd like to officially request that death matchers be classed as leechers so that we can ban them. They contribute very little, if anything to the game and most of the time just stop any kind of team play at all.
The rules state;
Quote from: cmp/the rules
No leeching

NOT OK: Running around naked without weapon. Not contributing is leeching, naked runners don't contribute.

Now I'm not talking about people who get into fights in order to get the ball, to remove defenders while their team is attacking, to mark dangerous players or to stop people attacking their goal. The people I'm talking about are:

Rangers (Archers and throwers) who stand around in the middle of the field shooting anyone who runs past - with the ball or not.
Rangers who stand around the goal area repeatedly shooting the goalkeeper when their team is not attacking.
Anyone who repeatedly ignores the ball in order to go attack random people.
Melee who run around infront of a goal wildly spamming at anyone who doesn't have a banner over their head.

Of course, there has got to be some common sense allowed for admins in these cases. Sometimes the action around the goal is hectic and all you can do is fight to get the ball - that's fine! But when all that's happening is half of each team is going from one goal area to the other in order to fight, that's just completely rediculous. The points system has worked quite well to indicate whom these people are who don't actually contribute (although it can be flawed if you're unlucky in your positioning). My point is, people should be in the rageball server in order to play rageball. Death matching has no place on the rageball field. As for the suggestion that "death matchers have their place", bullshit. Strategic killing has it's place, that's true, but spending all your time killing people and no time trying to help your team play ball properly is not strategic and if it helps, it's purely coincidental.

He and his buddies are actually doing quite fine currently with their x5 caused by the enemy team not trying to play rageball.

But yeah, I kinda do and do't agree with this. Would cause more work for me admining that server  :wink:

Kulin, you're just mad because you're always on the other team. You're also one of these people who runs around wilding spamming people who aren't remotely involved with play.

Murdering the entire team in my opinion is actually a very good method of shutting down he other team. In a game of 6v6 if I can kill half their team and keep them focused on me. I just made a major gain for my team by removing three of their players to just our one.

 And I can still help my team a lot if I kill all three of those guys then I have also made a big empty space to receive a pass and make a run on the goal.
My horse is named pebbles and we like to try.

In a low player match that might well work, in a game with the average number of players (10-13 per side) occupying 3 people isn't going to help very much at all. Also, if those people let you keep coming after them or are focused on killing you, they're useless to their team anyway - a death matcher hunting a death matcher.

The difficult thing is crossing the line between killing-usefull and killing-useless.
Sometimes, i just kill a good rageball player everytime i see him, so that he rages and always attacks me when he sees me. That way, he actually forget about the ball or whatever.
It's tactic.

Yeah, I meant to cover that kind of thing with;
Now I'm not talking about people who get into fights in order to get the ball, to remove defenders while their team is attacking, to mark dangerous players

Like I've said, there are some kills which are done for tactical reasons - targetting good players and disrupting their game being a valid one. But I think we can all agree that there definitely are people on rageball who aren't there to play, only to kill everything that moves - these are the kinds of people that I want gone.

Everyone is involved all the time. You can pass the ball to players that are far away, the ball is only part of the problem. Killing people that are dangerously close to your goal is also a very good tactic, just like in bloodbowl.

Killing defenders when your team lacks ball control however, that doesn't sound very productive.

Exactly, I have no problem with people killing defenders when their team is attacking, a.k.a has the ball. It's just when those same players continue to kill defenders when they should be defending themselves that the problem arises.

IMO, have a radius around the ball in which you can do damage. If you're outside it, you can't.

That way even if people are TDMing they still have some impact on the game.

Oh yes, let's make it so potential ball catchers cant get smacked silly untill the ball is an arbitrary distance away from them.

Agree and disgree... I would be all for not being able to hit people in the other half of the field to the ball. That eliminates death matching by the attacking teams goal and still allows for catchers/attackers to be killed.

Very hard to balance IMO. My first priority is to leave enemies alone who dont attack me and are not considered a threat but shooting EVERYTHING that has no banner and is in possesion of the ball or is going to do so. These include enemies chasing my teams ball carrier or enemies who are post likely to get passed to. Im all for less TDMing, although I have to say many times I see the team with the most TDMers score more often sadly, simply because they eliminate anything that could interrupt them.

Sometimes when Im sitting on 1x I realise there is no other way then shooting anything that moves which usually leads to 2-4 enemies chasing me through the map, giving my team powerplay advantage. Same thing with the goal campers. When there are 3 or more people camping the goal it needs one long kick and one of them will score. So it seems like almost any kill can turn out to be a game saver. Sometimes enemies I dont attack because I dont consider them a threat are those who are in ball possesion the next second and pass forward too quickly to take them down.
