Advice on 1h weapons

So im quite new to crpg, but starting to get the hang of it, im currently finding it easiest to learn on  a shielder and im working with the Cliche Huscarl and Side sword and I would like to make sure im using the best 1h weapon, so I just need some opinions based on personal experience of weapon use.

-warhammer
-wakizashi
-side sword
-steel pick
-military pick

what are the pros and cons of these weapons and heirloomed which one you think is best? thank you

I was playing the other day with 100wpf 1h and I picked a masterwork side sword. It was ridiculous. If you are planning multi heirlooms then that truly is the best weapon IMO
The others are a bit short and will leave you disadvantaged vs 2h/pole

Steel pick, especially when heirloomed, does IMBA damage and is really hard to block, though it is harder to hit with than the military pick, because of the lesser length. 5PS might make you want to go for either the pick or hammer, to compensate for the lack of attack power.

-warhammer (Blunt damage, nice weapon. Has a thrust. Short range, so needs good footwork/facehugging)
-wakizashi (Don't even bother)
-side sword (Best overall weapon. Especially MW sidesword.)
-steel pick (High damage, VERY short range. Needs high athletics and very good footwork to get the most of it. Will have trouble vs longer weapons. NO THRUST=Insta death vs crushthrough most of the time)
-military pick (A bit less damage than the steel pick, a bit more reach. Quite powerfull, comparable to the warhammer. No thrust, so only 3 attack directions)

All in all, I'd go for a sword. In your case, that would be the side sword.
The other weapons are specialty weapons and better left until you find yourself getting good performance with a sword.

imo if you are heirlooming, go Long espada eslanova. The reach is amazing for 1handers and it has awesome stab.

Same. If I could redo my heirlooms I would pick the long espada. It was my baby before the patch, but felt weird after the patch. Now I realize it was because I had to get used to my character rather than the weapon.
It is a weapon for more experienced players though imo. I would use it without a shield most of the time.

Just don't cry to hard when it gets hit by the nerf bat.
I would use a triple heirloomed nerf bat if I could. Awesome weapon.

Peircing negates armor? if so, how does that work.

Ill proboably heirloom my Steel pick(seein i only got 5 ps) and use the long espada as a lengthy 1h'er

Really though, stats really don't matter that much. There's usually just a couple points of speed or damage difference, and you can be effective with a nomad saber if you wanted too. Just be sure to pick something that fits your character, it's all about the style man .

There is more truth to this that you might think. Certain weapons seem very popular, but it's often as much due to hype and group behaviour. People tend to mimmic other players a lot.

Aside from my trusty (and nerfed!) Elite Scimitar, i really like the Sarranid Guard Sword. But there are many other viable options. Italian Sword, the Long Espada Enslavona, the good old Nordic Champion Sword, the Knightly Arming Sword... and that's just from memory.

Like Kophka said, you can be effective with the Nomad Sabre if you want. Pick something that fits your playstyle rather than what you think is 'the best weapon' when you look at the stats.

Forget the Wakizashi, it may be fast, but its very short.

If you want a fast one, you should try Niuweidao. I have a Masterwork Niuweidao and i'm really happy with it.

There really is nothing better than picking up these weapons on the field and figuring out which one you do best with, if you're new.

I like the Long Arming Sword.  This forgotten sword (don't see it mentioned anywhere...) is within a couple points of the best swords (in terms of damage and speed) but is slightly longer than the side sword and 3k or 4k cheaper!  This lets you have 3k worth of more armor, etc.  It works well for me, and is a good choice for horseback as well.
