Best Shield?

Hi i have a Question. I was long loyal to 2 Händers but no i will have a 1 Händer. Im a Newbie by Shields so i have the Question: Whats the best Shield and who stands how long that the Shield hold bevor it breaks  : : :

Just get a lame Huscarl uber shield with deflector forcefields like everyone does. Gotta' love diversity, and variety.

Huscarl shield. Shields have zero diversity.

The Huscarl shield is the best shield overall, although if you have the skills, get a steel shield.

BUT!

The shield that gives you the most bang for the buck is the Heather shield.

It completely blocks projectiles from the front and most of your forward sides. It has enough health to last and the resistance is high enough for only the strongest of bolts to pass through (with decent Shield skill none will pass).

So while Huscarl should be your main shield, this would make a nice backup/grinding/reserve/leveling shield.

know how to play? get a buckler!

if you're aware of your sorroundings, it canblock projectiles, it will never break, with decent shield skill and again some battle awareness, noone will get around it, and then it is much faster than all other shields.

What about the brown heater shield?

It has the same hitpoints as the huscarl and only a little less body armor. If you fight against shieldbraker (axes, ...) you need hps and not armor. The heater is also very fast, 96 compared to the 81 of the huscarl. But you can get an arrow in your feet and it is not as good as the huscarl against side attacks.
Think about heirlooming a shield. That increases hit points and armor, but not speed.

I would not use a shield with high armor, and very few hp. The knightly heater and the buckler (and others) break very fast against shieldbreaker.

I would also skill the shield skill above the shield minimum. I tested it (I crushed the same shield with different shield skill levels) and it seems you get about 8-10% durability for each shield point (yeah... it will be faster also).

Test the Norman 480 hp shield... last long.

Does anyone know the difference between armor and hitpoints for shields? Which stat translates into being able to take more hits: a higher armor rating or a higher hitpoint rating?

Also I know a shield's speed helps defensively, like you can raise it faster, but does it allow you to attack any faster? (IE, I can lower my shield and strike faster than I would with a low-speed shield)

Convoluted due to game play mechanics. Shield Armor is great if it is on your back, as it will reduce damage if shot in the back (I have confirmed this). Armor will also contribute to the damage reduced from a weapon striking against the HP of your shield. How this exactly compares to one another however is fuzzy on what the desired ratio is.
