Are we using the same board shield?

I doubt it, both looking at the stats, and testing, you can see that they have the most durability and soak better against 2Hers. Granted, if you are unused to them, then you will not take many swings against your opponent due to you being afraid of being slow, and thus the 2Her will wreck your shield.

However, if I can defeat a 2Her axe maniac with a Heavy Board Shield, Short Broad Sword, 104wpf and 15 Agil, then anyone out to be able to do so as well. I am rubbish in melee...

With my regular Board Shield, this only becomes easier due to the speed increase, and the HP does not drop that much.

EDIT: He may have been using the "Worn Board Shield" or whatever it is called, I have seen that break on occasion, and have broken more then a few with just my str archer shooting arrows into it.

Old will break quick to anything, Plain won't survive more than 3 shield breaker hits, but Board Shield and Heavy Board Shield can take a mighty, mighty beating.

As I understand it, weapons with a bonus against shields ignore the shield's resistance. I don't know for sure, but it does explain why steel shields can break in just 1 or 2 hits against a strong axe. Against those weapons, it comes down to which shield has more hit points, and the board shields are definitely above average there.

Bonus vs shield is just increased damage.

However, with the way armour works in crpg, bring tons of damage and armour doesn't matter jack, too low damage and you do no damage. It's like that with body armour, it's like that with shield resistance, too. That is why high HP shields are better in general... well, ok, steel shield has enough armour that all the standard suspects without shield bonus do little to no damage, but once you have enough damage to overwhelm its armour it falls quite fast. For instance a plated round shield is easier to break with a 2h sword then most shields are, because 50 armour rating is pathetic (while 60 is good).

Maybe we should test different shields on duel server ...

I try something now, if there are some online on duel server.

I would like to know if bonus against shields , kill the shield body armor , or if these weapons make only more damage ...

Maybe shields with high body armor are not so bad !? I can´t believe that body armor has nothing to say , when it goes against shield breakers ...

Ok .... the normal Board shield with: hit points 430 body armor 10 , seems to hold double time against shield breakers , than the steel shield ... ( 69 body armor , 225 hit points ) .

Looks like shields breakers , like axes ignore the body armor.

Steel shield breaks after 4-5 hits from axe, Board shield after 8-10 hits ... But i try some other stuff.

Sean, how many points in Shield do you have?

I had 8 at 28 lvl (or 27, i dont remember xD) and with Steel Shield it was able to survive above 120 hits before "shield picture" reached 2. breaking stage (= 1. Full 2. First stage 3. Second Stage 4. Third stage 5. Shield is broken).

Didn't have time to test it further... ;)

I have 7 shield , at test ( now ) , and about 5 hits steel shield is broken. Against shield breaker like 2h axe.

Board shield , heavy board shield , and even Fur covered shield is much better against shield breakers !

The bad thing about it .... these shields are slow too ...

But i try the high hitpoint shields now , with my 1h shielder. There are too many shield breakers out there ;-) And i mostly play in Team. So more hitpoints are better for me, than fast shield ...

Edit : Maybe i try a medium shield with some body armor , but more than 200 hitpoints .... the 600 hitpoint shield is very slow ....

Edit 2 : @ Dravic : Do you think with 8+ Shield there is something different ? That makes steel shield nearly unbreakable ? Can´t test it , cause i reach only 7 shield with this char ...

Edit 3 : I tested Steel Shield , Steel Buckler , knightly heater shield, Board shield , heavy board shield , plain board shield , nordic shield, fur covered shield and huscarl round shield ...

I must say the buckler is nothing for me .... when under fire from 2 sides the arrows come around easy from the side. And hits from side too. I like greater shields. And now , shields with more hitpoints, body armor i ignore. But speed is still importend for me , i search a medium shield now ....
When i search for a medium shield which is not too slow , the Heater Shield is really a good allrounder. Some hitpoints against shield breakers ( 410 hitpoints ) , and faster than the big shields like heavy board , or huscarl ( 96 speed ) , on the other hand not so extrem protection. But i try this shield now .... in real fighting ;-) We will see if it is good enough ;-)

Edit 4 : I just saw .... there are 2 ( ! ) Heater Shields ..... wonder which one is better for me .... the one with 360 hp 100 spd ( green )  , or the other 410 hp 96 spd ( orange/brown ).
A cheap beginner shield is the nordic shield with requirement only 1 and 100 spd / 240 hp.

Hm .... i just saw the 3. heater shield ( why do they have all the same name ? ;-) ) , but this one with 260 hitpoints is not enough for me. Its not so fast too. Only 90 SPd.

Ok .... i have written enough .... everyone can take what he wants out of this thoughts ( or nothing and just get the Huscarl ;-) )


Last Edit : I think i stay with the orange/brown heater shield ( the one with 410 hp / 96 spd ) for a while ... it´s a good allrounder between speed and durability. If you wear only light armor , it´s pretty fast to fight with. Like it.
