ive been trying to sort out swings tho, like there always reaction speed, so do peoploe who sheild hold down both mouse buttons and then realease left right after right? or hows that work? thats what im mostly confused on..

This build is just bad...

@ the OP - The build you have presented is a good build for lvl 30, and the second build by Isatis is a good alternative. I personaly wouldnt recommend the first one from Isatis as i value atleast some points in ironflesh, its just something i wouldnt do (sacrafice of 8 IF points for that extra PS).  Those are the standard shielder builds for shielders with swords because you have enough power in your swings not to glance (6 ps seems to be the point when you dont glance at most of your enemies with cut) and still have enough mobility. However if you wish to be a piercing and mobile shielder you can also try:

Hit points: 56
Skills to attributes: 2
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 7
Athletics: 7
Weapon Master: 7
One Handed: 165


My suggestion to you (if you can stand 3 gens of shielding) - try them all. There is now way to know what will suit you the most unless you actualy try it out.

It is tailored for my needs - I use heavy armor and a knightly arming sword. That is why i need the 18 agi and the stats benefits that go with it. 21/15 if fine for light/medium armor, but i feel sluggish and i get ganked alot because i cant escape tight spots wearing the armor i wear. Why 21 strenght? 6 PS is enough for the knightly arming. But i have never been the one to settle with enough. The ocasinaly archer still needs 2 hits to fall, which annoyes the fuck out of me and tincans still need a proper beating. 7 PS should sort that out

left swing should account for over 50% of your attacks.  Overheads are good follow up.  Generally circling counter-clockwise is going to help you most.  Avoid letting people circle you clockwise

to some of your questions:

I personally just hold my right mouse button until a swing connects and then immediately prepare myself for a counter attack with the left.  I don't hold both mouse buttons down and I doubt most good shielders do.

The immediate counter attack is important... you need to balance not dropping you block too early (against someone who tries to feint swings) but at the same time if you hesitate too long to go from blocking to attacking that can cause you to swing late and therefore the enemy will be able to "spam" you when in reality if you swung more quickly you would have been fine.

As was mentioned earlier your left swing is probably going to be your bread and butter swing, partly because it's very fast and partly because it rarely glances.  Overheads are good but it is slightly slower and sometimes if your positioning is bad someone can "spam" you. 

Thrust and right swing have the longest reach, but are more prone to glancing if you don't aim them properly.  You want the enemy centered on your screen to do a clean right swing - if they are too far to your right you'll probably glance (as opposed to the left swing).  Thrust glances if you are too close and too far - you need to find that sweet spot or turn your swing to get a poke in.

Practice on the duel server for timings if you are having problems, really it's going to be a practice makes perfect issue, but if your positioning and reaction times are down you should never get outspammed by even the fastest 2H/pole.

yea i was working with/dueling Saul on the duel server, and he explained as best he could about counter attacking asap, i guess my counter attacks tend to be too slow, and i noticed i have a bad habit of right swinging alot (i dont glace) but ive been sticking with non thrust swords as of recently, and i think i prefer them, thrust seems to get me killed more then anything, lol.

After 17 gens of 1-hander I assure you it is far superior to the standard 21/15 build.

With 6 PS you won't glance unless you mess up your footwork. It's also enough damage to put anyone down pretty quickly. Especially combined with the speed bonus from 7 athletics.
With 6 shield skill my MW Heavy Round never breaks.
With 7 athletics I don't get surrounded, can pick my own battles and can catch archers.
And with 0 WM I don't waste points on something you don't need as a 1-hander. With 111 WPF I still spam the shit out of people all day long.

With this build, you do need to know what you're doing but if you do, it's WAY the fuck better than the standard 21/15.

all WPF in 1 hand making it a nice 157, very good cav and infantry build

WPF also gives damage btw, according to Vargas' calculator difference between 111 wpf and 150ish is as much as 1 PS.

Since we're talking about 1 handers here...the difference between 111 wpf and 150 wpf is 1-2 points of damage. Pretty terrible investment to put 5 points into something for a point of damage.

WPF is always a good investment and should be maxed out together with ath, ps and shield skill when playing a shielder. The difference between 156 and 111 is more than noticable in terms of speed and less glancing. And for group figthing it is as crucial as athletics

But to each their own i guess, thats why the OP should try them all out
