Ladders were abused pretty badly before, making a ladder highways on some maps that took attackers directly to the flag and in spots that defenders could not easily get to.  But siege without player deployable ladders is a horribly boring static affair.  Not having player deployable ladders vastly reduces the amount of tactics, creativity and FUN that was in the game mode.

Here is a siege lovers suggestions on how to balance ladders.  Obviously this is a big plan that would need ALL of these changes to accomplish the goal.


Ladders are 3 slots & unsheathable.  You cannot carry anything else in your hands while you have a ladder

Ladders need to be even heavier to slow carriers down about 25% more than previously

2 piles containing 1 of each kind of ladder spawned and laying on the ground outside the castle walls on opposite sides of the front walls.  Ladders should be far enough away away from castle walls to give defenders a chance to shoot ladder carriers ALA LOTR Legolas @ Siege of Helmsdeep.

If any of the ladders are used and destroyed, they will respawn in 10-30 seconds at their original location

Any ladder that is not at least inclined at a 30 degree or greater angle upwards will shatter itself, to prevent horizontal ladder bridges

Make siege tower DESTRUCTABLE.  If attackers arent using/defending the main attack platform it should be able to be destroyed.  This will give defenders some options other than 'sit and wait at flag to get steamrolled'.  Do they risk coming out at the start to disrupt the tower?  Wait til attackers are tied up mid way? Who knows!

REMOVE ALL INDESTRUCTABLE MAP LADDERS!  Part of the fun of siege is working as a team to accomplish a goal.  Map ladders are not fun to use, on either side.  Give attackers ways to out maneuver defenders.  Give defenders something to actually do , scout attackers movements and try to block their strategy is ALOT more fun than waiting to lose at flag.

Add back 1 minute back to the round timer

IMO  ladders could work ok (talking siege only) IF they worked like this:
Once a ladder is placed it will auto-fall off if there isn't an amount of [team who spawned ladder] players not standing on the ladder but standing near it and holding F (which would simulate holding the ladder or something) equal/higher than the amount of players [from either team] standing on it. If there are more [team that didn't spawn ladder] pressing F on it then they push it off the wall (catapulting everyone on it miles away into their death.  :mrgreen: ) than there are players of [Ladder spawning team] holding F at it, if the player amount is equal then the side with highest total STR wins.
This would also require huge changes to the way rest of siege works, IMO such changes would be:
30min per round.
Ladders 'n' construction sites 'n' construction parts spawning at attacker and defenders spawn.
New barricades (a few different shapes, some with more width, height, health, etc. (could fx be placed in a wall wreckage, or inbetween two of those spikey things blocking the wall walkway, no idea what they're called).
More siege equipment units like rams, ballista, etc (stronghold is the best franchise ever)
Completely new maps to suit these changes.
That's pretty much my opinion on the matter.

BUT NEVER EVER, FUCKING EVER, EVEN FUCKING CONSIDER, READDING LADDERS IN BATTLE. please?
1H stab is the fastest, strongest and longest 1H animation. There's no reason NOT to use it in all instances. I don't know if it's OP, but it's boring. 1H used to be fun because you had a fast (left), long (right) and the most devastating attack (stab) and had to choose the best attack for each occasion.

Siege without ladders is just a lemming parade to the usually 2 stock ladders with mauls waiting on top, or a possible backdoor.

Some maps really could use an extra ladder.

Ladders actually were unsheathable, once. They didn't drop to the ground, but your character was always auto-switching them to active again, if you tried to switch to another weapon.

1. Make them unsheathable again.
2. Give them very low health, so that 1-2 blows from almost any weapon destroys it. This will force you to place ladders in a way that is unreachable for defenders. No more easy siege ladder spamming.
3. The thing with the inclination could actually work.
4. Remove siege and large ladders, only keep small, normal and medium and make them 2, 3 and 4 slots respectively.
5. As a bonus, make them stackable again, so that it's still possible to reach high places with enough dedication.
6. Don't allow them in battle mode.

I think siege is fun without ladders imho they ruined many maps back then now maps seems more balanced now without em..

Yes there are 2 or 3 maps dunno their names which needs an extra ladder or a backdoor but saying siege is a lemming parade without deployable ladders is a lie.

Fix the few maps that could use either a backdoor or 2 more ladders an be done with it.. no need to kill anymore rainforest mother earth has suffered enough!!!
I've never played a server where people split up as much or as often as on EU1.  No wonder range is having a field day.
