(bad) Duels

I just have to ask - why are there so many bad duels?

Do people seriously care about their KDR on a duel server?

I'm talking about people who rush you and kick/slash your face as soon as the duel starts,(which is actually against the rules, right?) people who "practice" polestagger, and of course MAUL TRAINING!!

Isn't the idea to actually learn how to better play and not just slaughter everyone?

Personally I will fight anyone/everyone, even a shielder when I've got a pike, but it's a little sad when Mr. 35-0 actually runs to the spawns to try to duel & kill newbies repeatedly. (Just witnessed somebody kill a person about two dozen times, all they did was try to block, never attempted a swing.  They sorely needed the block practice, but of course, the guy was using a maul... so they often got knocked down/killed on a correct block.)

And before you say anything, no, I'm not really bothered by this.  I still manage to block some hits and hit these guys before the polestagger/knockdown kill begins.  Unless they chase me down before the duel  starts and spam me to death, though I have beaten a few people who tried doing that before... I just don't understand the mentality.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and unless I was being trolled do people seriously have DUELING builds so that they can do better on the duel server.. ???

Some people take that shit seriously (their score in the duel server).  If you're only trying to get better than who cares what other people are doing...don't duel them then.

One of my alts is a "duelist" build with HBS/Two Handed Sword in mind, but honestly I CBA to duel in cRPG because it's boring/slow/an endurance match, and everyone wears their heirloomed butt armor for duelies. Anyway, people who rush up on you like that (which is against the rules, you're right) and kill poor noobies in the duel while wearing full plate with a Great Maul are the twisted, black heart of the module embodied.
You think you're pretty smart with your dago mustache and your greasy hair.

I mainly don't play duel anymore because of how many face rushers there are (or the guy who pulled a crossbow halfway into the fight), unless it is training with clanners or people I know.

Easier to practice on Siege my blocking skills, then polish them on Battle.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

It's actually interesting to train against those "real battle" threats like CT, polestagger or even cavalry. But yeah don't duel the guys that just crutch on one hardly skill-dependant feature. There are maulers that go to the duel server to improve, but those are admittedly not the majority.

If you want to train something in particular, talk about it with other duellists. There are often people that wish to train kicking/chamberblocks or unusual weapons.

This is a good thing, because as a shielder I like practicing against maulers!  The more challenging the duel, the better.

Maybe its not their fault they are slaughtering everyone, and does it matter really? People can decline the requests anyways, but they might see it as good practise to duel someone better than them or someone with a special kind of weapon.

I dont go the duel server much, personally i find duels that occur in battle far more exciting.

All i ever do on the duels on the duels these days is practice chamberblocking in duels with a miaodao, generally in light armor, so yeah, fuck those try-hards.

Well even though the OP is NA, his description matches with EU duel servers, so I guess the differences are slim.

My experience is roughly this :

50% normal people
7% LOLIGOTBLACKARMORANDGREATMAULFUANDISTILLNEEDTOFACEHUGBEFORETHEDUELBEGINS

yes, not very far I guess. Though 7% seems much too high and OP sounds like he has even more in mind. and those 3% I never saw.

I used to do that a few times when I was new to crpg, since I thought it was similar to fighting game countdowns. Chances are, they just aren't aware and even if they are, politely pointing it out will help.

I don't mind it personally. I do get a little annoyed at getting hit during the countdown assuming the swing won't hit.

Hmm well usually I just don't care if someone plays it dirty in duels. Attacking me while countdown doesn't bother me since it already gives me some information about my opponent's style. Knockdown and slashing/kicking while I'm on the ground is not problem either if it is not a competition or something. However there is one thing that bothers me: The people who turn around and start running away :O. I mean what is the point to duel if you just run away and "unexpectedly" turn around and hit me with the slash you've been holding for half a minute while I chased you? This is common with wannabe ninjas who are new to the game. When this happens I usually just stand still and be passive or just cancel the duel because I gain nothing from such duels.
