My experiences are actually on both NA and EU servers, though they seem to be worse on EU servers (I only duel before strat matches)

I can totally understand people needing to train with weapons that happen to have polestagger,  or knockdown, and/or crushthrough, but there are a handful of players who just duel to win at any cost, many of whom do not actually do very well on Battle/Siege (where there's an actual team to support, see: Chambering) and I'm trying to understand WHY.

And again I am not really bothered by this.  After a few rounds of "Whoops, I got hit a single time, guess I've got to just stand here while he hits me five more times!" I get the message and stop dueling those people, though they often still try to duel me.   As I said I will basically just duel anybody, you fight any kind of opponent on the other servers, but it seems a lot of people use dirty tactics which are only regularly encountered on duel servers.

Oh, that explains a lot. As soon as the server fills up because of an upcoming strat battle I leave asap.

On the one hand it annoys me when people break the rules of engagement by not giving the other player space before the start of the duel.

Other than that though I feel like it's free game.  It's lame when someone puts on a shit-ton of heavy armor or changes their usual set-up for the duel server, but if they generally use heavy armor in battle, why wouldn't they do the same in duel?  Same with stuff like crushthrough/ranged/cav... even if they use "cheap" weapons it's all about the practice.

IMO the only things worse than someone who face hugs are the players who bitch about 'fairness' and 'cheapness', who whine when they lose and gloat when they win, and the players who demand the other player change their style before accepting a duel... those are the real douche bags.

Indeed. I like when I face a dueler who tries to do everything to win me because that is the best training there is. The thing isn't going to be any different in battle server 1 vs 1 and all tricks are allowed if it is done with normal game mechanics and not cheating. I duel basically anyone but I like to duel with the best ones. I don't care about my duelserver k/d. Fuck that shit. I'm there to learn different styles that other people have, not to make my epeen bigger. I duel even the newcomers and try to teach them to manual block and maybe give them some tips but I can't stand it when someone just starts running and avoiding me like that. I don't mind backpedaling and range control, but turning your back on me and running away is getting to my nerves. You can do it, but you can be pretty sure I won't duel you after I've finished you.

on a side note, I'd love to get more practice against maul-users on duel server. they seem to get more and better in battle again.

Why would any1 care if a peasant dies 35 times to another guy on a duel server? No1's forcing that peasant to accept the duel so if they want to do it, it's up to them.

As for face hugging, attacking before duel starts im going to be enforcing this rule on eu3 whenever im on.

I like to help fellow noobs. It's obvious when someone is new and so I just block and then hold swings and make sure they get blocks up for practice. It's sad to see noobs get demolished by some 2h feinting them and raping their faces off.

When I'm bored I duel, and when I'm bored I face rush because I don't really think and just go into brain dead instincts mode.

Keep in mind before a strat battle you get a alot of people who don't normally duel. So you see a lot of "douches" who are really just duel noobs.

I'm usually on duel nowadays to practice with ninjas. But I sometimes join just for fun. I'm(me, not my character) just so slow nowadays it's unbearable and makes me sad.

I duel with a Swiss Halberd these days but I always feel like a nuisance. Two directional weapons are kinda annoying/boring to duel, but I just need the practice.

I don't really see a problem in what the OP describes because after all, mutual agreement to have a duel is required. If you don't want to duel someone, don't press f. Although I mostly press F at whatever I see and end up in lame duels quite a lot.

Lol. In the last two weeks I spent around 6 or 8 hours on the duel server in total, I never saw any facehugger nor maul users.

If you want the complete story, each time I connected to the duel server, Hasul_The_Grey was there. I was unlucky and you were lucky.

Anyway, as teeth said, those people are a minor nuisance. You duel them once, they start being assholes and you never duel them again.

The only thing I don't like on duel is when someone wants to start the fight already in your face.  Anything else goes.  Crossbow in the middle of a duel?  Perfectly fair.  Happens all the time in Battle -- if the crossbow guy can get his crossbow out and start aiming it, you aren't keeping proper pressure on him.  If all he does is run away, well, I guess you know the weakness of your 0 throwing, 0 athletics, no crossbow build.  I still have fond memories of the first time I dueled Lubu and killed him in literally 2 seconds by hitting him in the head with a heavy throwing axe...  Subsequent duels he learned to dodge all my throwing axes and kick my ass...

I see no problem with maul training.  I mean, the great maul is not an easy to use weapon.  I actually think it's a pretty terrible dueling weapon.  When I first tried it, I hated it and switched away from it fairly quickly.  I like it now only after 2 full gens of using other two-handers.  I really SHOULD go to the duel server with it because I certainly could use the practice.  And it sounds like lots of newbies need to learn about blocking and great mauls... (i.e., don't do it, stab them in the face instead)

This discussion reminds me of every MMORPG duel ever -- "stop cheating!  no potions!"  wut.  Unless we specifically agree to some conditions beforehand (perhaps to test something in particular), I see no reason why it should be anything less than "anything goes".
Crush your enemies; see them driven before you; hear the lamentations of their women.
