Pretty awesome stuff, although I will never, ever be able to understand quantum mechanics or string theory. Wish I could even grasp it at a basic level.

Amazing.

We should stop wars, and invest more money in space technology.
Maybe they'd figure out something, or they already did. Who knows.

Totally. Those billions we invested in nice photos of planet mars sure were worth their money.

Well, only after solving problems on Earth, of course.

Utopic, I know, most likely won't happen.  :)

PS: And I'm not talking about taking photographs.

Well it's only an interactive and up-to-date version of the famous power of ten movie : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fKBhvDjuy0

What is really cool though, is that they show the the cosmological noise around the observable universe.

Also, I think that in a few millenia, or even centuries, it will be space or death for us. No matter how sustainable we become, we need resources. And afterall, "The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever", right ?

Well, if technology advances, and humanity would use asteroid mining, Earth could be supplied from the asteroids around us.

Too bad we won't see a real Space Age. We'll still only have Earth habited by man when I'll die, I'm sure.

I'm not that much of a Sci-fi fan, but I was interested of stars, planets, and space in general, since Kindergarten.  :)
Remember how I learned to read so that I can understand what they are writing about the planets in one of the books when I was there. Was I 3,4,5? I don't remember, it was early kindergarten though.
Good stuff   :D

I wouldnt be so sure about that one :D

If we are counting 50 years from now, most of us here will probably still be alive.

A lot of Things can happen in 50 Years.

Somebody could find a technique to freeze people and wake them up 100 years later or something.

Someone could find the key to infinite life.

etc. etc.

I still have hope.
Maybe it woud be better for me to find out where you life and kill you when you are satch a Soziopath. You have enough now.

Just don't think we'll attain the ability to travel at (near)lightspeed before we wipe ourselves out. The technology required is still quite a whiles away and we'll most likely fuck up somewhere soon(ish). If we don't, the process of devolution by letting anyone and his poo reproduce is making the human genome slowly crappier, we might not even be smart enough to invent such things in a few thousands year.

Funny how humankind embraced evolution as their origin, but also threw natural selection out of the window with our healthcare.

I'm hoping for the rise of transhumanism within my lifetime. A longer/extendable lifespan would also speed up our already fast technological development, wouldn't it?

Dis. I don't really care whether I live to use it. But to live when it is becoming reality would allow me to die happy. It's badass.

That is chocolate chip cookie, but he got a point. Natural selection doesn't operate as fully as it should for humans, and this trend will likely (and probably hopefully) not be reversed in the near future. We won't become stupid because intelligence (at least to a degree) helps reproduction, but we will most likely become weak to diseases and physically weak in general. Physical labor massively decreased with technology, so we don't need to be as strong and as tough as before to survive, and more importantly, reproduce. I predict that our dependance on human-made systems (as opposed to nature) will rise.
