Unfortunately I am mildly allergic to Tea (real tea, not the fake stuff like Chamomile which is still wonderfully delicious), so it and cherries gives me small headaches... :/

This is not taking into account muscle memory. I'm 5'5" and 106 pounds and I can practice/spar with my 3.5 pound longsword for well over 2 hours without getting tired. It is not so much that it is a "significant weight" as it is your body doing something it is not used to. Some muscles used during sparring are not used at all in everyday activities, but after building them up just a little bit, make an incredible difference in how you are able to wield a weapon.

You're a bit behind the times. I have many weapons, as well as gambeson and steel gauntlets. I used to spar with the NAU fencing club, but the guy that runs it, Bill Wilson, is a pretentious and arrogant twat. So I did some work with a friend Richard Marsden and John Patterson in Phoenix. Been doing it for about a year and a half.

I have a nordic sword (viking sword, unsure about the english name for it. Very similar to an arming sword) a bow, arrows with a badass leather quiver (not fantasy badass but historically right badass) and a dagger. You want that you archer scum. I know it

Longswords (plastic and steel), Dussacks (leather and steel), Rapiers (43 inch and 37 inch), Saber, Glaive, Bearded axe, Rondel, Main Gauche, and just for fun a Seax.

To go along with which I have 4-1 pattern high tensile chainmail, gambeson, and steel mitten gauntlets. All of which I have for practical reasons of course, sparring, experimental anthropology, and general interest. Very few historians have an interest in the actual tools of warfare, as evidenced by their incredible lack of knowledge of some aspects of historical warfare (fallen knights couldn't get up, swords were heavy and non-dexterous). I'd rather form my own opinion firsthand.

I have a horse

It's obviously not a trained warhorse, but I have been thinking of getting in contact with a local group who specializes in reenacting medieval mounted warfare. Those guys have real armour and badass lances with them. The only reason I haven't joined yet is because it's gonna be bloody expensive. Maybe after I finish Uni...

EDIT: Just remembered. In Europe there's also been a growth in Hungarian Horse Archery the last couple of years. We only have one such group here in Norway, but I've been thinking of trying it out. I tried some amateurish with a couple of friends and it was bloody difficult!

Play is kind of a derogatory term for it.

I study and translate historical fencing plates (primarily Fiore dei liberi in my case) and then preform the "plays" based off the plates, it gives a good feel for what is actually possible and what is not as effective. Frankly most of the combat in M&B could be solved with a quick "pommel that asshole in the face" response.

Of course most of Fiore's stuff ends with a pommel to the face. I posted this in another thread, but since you ask it is along these lines. Granted the polish guys in this video are practicing a more Prussian style of longsword fencing, meaning less use of the hilt as a weapon, and more what we call "winding," but here you can just watch it and see what I mean.
