Horse bumping..

Recently a idea was suggested by a player named Araios after we had horse riders just bumping people to death and i thought it was a good idea and just wanted to see what other people think of it. His idea was that every time you bump some one with your horse, there should be a 10% chance that the horses legs tangle and trip itself or something like that. This would also make horse players more strategic when picking who to ram their horse into considering they could be thrown off and killed.

Its dead now, can you lay it off really? It does next to 0 damage now.

But they do no charge damage now, or close to zero anyway.  :D

Its not the fact that it does damage, its highly annoying and honestly as justme said, Horses aren't made of steel. It also isn't a battering ram unless you have a charge or one of those armored horses.

Actually, justme's idea is pretty good. I think with half damage to the horse, horse bumping could actually be buffed again...

Combination of both? Horses arent the most graceful animals its not to hard to believe that they would trip over the body or themselfs as they rammed into people.

Yeah, but as a person interested in game design I know that random chances not affectable by players are a bad idea.

It also isn't a battering ram

It currently hits you with about the strength of a wooden club in the hands of a near-peasant. I can stand in mail and headbutt the horse and an average horse won't knock me out until the game draws. Now as "highly annoying" it is to get bumped, it would also be highly annoying if people stopped horses by simply jumping into their path. People already do that to avoid getting hit. It's "highly annoying" that you can instakill a horse with a dart. (Imagine, all those fools which made pike and shot formations and shit, they should have just carried 8 darts each to massacre any cavarly charge).

If you want to argue from a realism standpoint, do you really think cavalry worked in such a way that the horses just fell when they hit infantry formations and that's it, cavalry charge done, now they're all face down on the floor together with their horses?

And if you want to argue from a game balance perspective, well, 1h/2h bump&slash cavalry is all but extinct, which is the type of cavalry which relies on bumping. Almost everyone is a lancer now, since it's way more effective.

+1 to bruce.

The game is very forgiving as far as getting hit by a 1000+ lb animal with armor on traveling at about 30mph goes. It'd be like getting hit by a car, only this car has a dude on top with a long sharp stick.

-1 to Bruce

It's not about the damage ffs.

It's about the fact I am in the middle of a battlefield and I have 2 infiltry guys on me with 2 handed axes while their cav teammate just makes tight figure eights  running over me consistantly and opening me up for their attacks.  Basically it gets to the point that they are horsebumping you to death regardless of how you look at it.  It knocks you down and opens you to attack.  They don't even attack they just shield and bump.  Is this always?  No - it's situational.  But the fact it happens opens the possibility of a small percentile penalty for the actions.

I'm not an idiot, I understand the dynamics involved Bruce.  Thanks for playing Devils Advocate and managing to keep the actual point of the posting down to a minimum.  You seem stuck on random issues and unable to see the real issue here being the ability to bump without penalty to the rider.  Not the damage issued.

The fact is it's too easy for a cav to do this and with say even a 5% chance of dismount should the horse become entangled in the victim I think it would lower the instances of this happening and at least add an element of random fun to cav players.

Next stellar idea: NOW THAT WE MADE HORSES USELESS LETS JUST GET RID OF THEM IM TIRED OF BEING LANCED

I think that after a horse bumps you, it should do bump damage plus the damage of the hooves trampling you. I bet you wouldn't like that realism would you?

Recently a idea was suggested by a player named Cock after we had horse riders just bumping people to death and i thought it was a good idea and just wanted to see what other people think of it. His idea was that every time you bump some one with your horse, there should be a 40% chance that the infantry man's legs break and fall off or something like that. This would also make infantry players more strategic when choosing where they go considering they could be ridden over and butthurt themselves.
