So, in general, if you want to hit someone, you have to be accurate to do it. An archer/xbow must be pointed a their target to get them. Not just "in the general vicinity". A sword must pass through the body of the enemy to hit them. You can't swing, miss, and then bump your hilt into them. In these cases, you must be accurate, whether it be an accurate placement of your attack, or having gauged the correct range for your weapon's swing to pass through the body.

Why do spears/lances not have to follow the same rules of gameplay? They do not have the onus of being accurate, neither in attack direction, nor in gauging correct range. I've watched the style of "successful" spear users and for accuracy, they follow these rules:
1: Never point your spear at the enemy. Always attack away from them, just to the side.
2: Right after thrusting away from the enemy, swing your spear so that it touches the enemy body. It doesn't need to be the 4 inches of steel on the tip at all. As long as the shaft of the weapon touches them, it will be just as though you just thrust accurately straight into their chest.

This isn't just about spears either, they are simply the easiest to point out as everyone who uses them successfully uses this same tactic. Basically, the issue is the same with all of the longer weapons. It doesn't matter if you hit someone with the 2 inches of wood in front of your hands, it still lands the full damage of the pointy end that is 5 feet away from you.

I don't have a problem with the spear attack, so long as they swing the TIP of the spear that is made of STEEL into the enemy. It is being hafted repeatedly (and through shields too from what I hear from those guys)

The bottom line is, once a guy with a Long Dagger gets inside your weapons effective range, they shouldn't NEED to be able to block, because that 8 foot shaft of wood is ineffective inside that 2 foot range.

Let's get rid of the "Haft Drag" kills and put footwork and range awareness back into melee fights and get away from the gimmick attacks. In short, put the Onus of being accurate in your attacks on ALL players.

While I do agree with you in principle you have to keep in mind:

Direct spear thrusts glance off everything.  It's rediculous and gimp.  The turning is damn near required to add speed bonus in order to get it to deal damage at all, ever.

Spear thrusts, especially when used with a shield, are SO easy to spot from the massive telegraphing the animation gives that the curving it into the enemy is one of the only ways you have to throw off the timing a bit in order to get an attack past the permanent downblock the opponent approaches you with (mostly again applying to when being used with a shield).  Adding a 2nd thrust animation would solve this (overhead thrust).

Still in spirit I do agree with:

Also crutch-through.  Keep the game skill based, not removing your opponents RMB from his mouse.

It's both ludacris.

Imo, all the 2h weapons should get the polearm thrust animation. They have it when used in halfsword mode mode now, but should be applied to normal mode too.
The langes messer allready has this animation when used in 2h mode and I have yet to see anyone whine about the langes messer thrust being OP :P

Would make the game a lot more skillbased, instead of the way it is now.
No more pike swords, spin thrusting, lolstabs, polearmstun, etc.
Crushthrough is a game mechanic you can easily deal with, the same way you can deal with the range of a pike/longspear in 1v1 combat.

The problem is even if you are number 1 in NA you are still only number 467 in EU or the worst in AUS(number 17)

This whole topic is about the spinthrusting with spears and he gave a +1 to the notion that it should be impossible. Honestly.... some peoples reading comprehension.


Why is that WSE thingy taking so long, weapons should have collisions with the ground and the whole pike thingy would be a lot less abusable. Also that video with flaming arrows looked fuckin epic. And I believe only with WSE they will be able to remove polestun.
