I use a long espada eslavon, but just because i have a +1 and it looks cool.

Its fun, I love swords, and playing as 1h sword alone is cool for me.

On the downside, its hard to kill armored dudes (unless you know how to stab well) and its expensive

As a pole user I have to say that the quarter staff with the arbalest is quite good (my playing experience only). It's 1 slot, 100 speed, 137 reach, 21b swing and 19b thrust with pole-stun, knock-down, and can stop a horse with a thrust. Sure it may not have the highest damage when compared to the mace but the range and speed make it a great counter for most any opponent, if you can use it that is.

Id still go for the Mace as the dmg it deals is quite good.

Those too are way more expensive and are 1 handed.

Yeah shortened spear is good too, but I just prefer the quarter staff because of the extra length/swing damage/knock down.

The Military Cleaver is a great option.  It has great cut damage, has decent length, and is very fast. It's perfect for those of us that are partial to only cut weapons but have too much self respect to go with a scimi/elite scimi.

military sickle in 2h mode. fast as hell, 28 pierce damage.

if you have 10k you can pay all the upkeep as long as it's under 45k.

langes messer has 100 speed in 2handed mode(press x to switch mode) and 35c damage, if you take max powerstrike you wont glance anyway, so not a problem. but if you lack the money, take spiked mace or military sickle.
