Hmmm, Shogunate and NE convincing a bunch of clans to waste their troops and fight it out in the desert (land we LLJK took from them in humiliating fashion).  Even if they do somehow wipe us out they want those clans to stayed allied and small (as they divide the desert between about 5 clans) while they have free reign farther north.
