Failure of an example, if we had invaded, taking massive causalities and having to wipe out huge numbers of Japan's population from every city, or just let Japan continue it's reign of terror over all of the east, then there would be something to blame the US for, dropping a couple nukes when no one else had them in order to force the government to surrender was the best option there. Study history and you'll find there are plenty of better examples like
wipe all the natives and ghetto the remaining. oh and 300 years of slavery.
are better examples, yet even there, from the time of this nations creation, there have been many people that have fought to have things changed, and ultimately, the Americans that support the idea that all people are equal are the ones that win in the long run.

but their really isn't any point to it. I have slave owning ancestors, but to assume I have any negative feelings toward black people would be just as ridiculous as to assume someone from France must have a great fondness for using the guillotine on anyone who looks at them the wrong way, or that all Spanish enjoy burning people at the steak and slaughtering Muslims. I certainly don't get the impression that all British people are still obsessed with conquering all the "inferior" people around the world.
