Have no idea what the leeching rule was. First one was smoking, now I smoke inside. Now I just spec if I'm even getting up so won't be a problem anymore.

Yeah, it's a very stupid stereotype, I wonder where the hell does it come from. School education maybe?
Just think about people who were either wealthy, or were priests, etc etc.
Not everyone was a mercenary/soldier, or had such an unhealthy life compared to the poorer classes.
Yes, its a very good series, like most Books from him.Still, Song of ice and fire is as good or eeven better in its own way.
Important thing to note about statistics concerning life expectancy in the middle ages:
Deaths in childbirth and at infancy will severely impact the statistics because of lack of adequate medical care back then. A commonly stated myth that is passed off as fact is based on this misinterpretation of statistics. ("people only lived to the age of 30 in the middle ages") However, if you count the people that survived to adulthood (15 years), most will have lived to their 50s and 60s, sometimes even longer. Since everyone starts at age 16 we can basically assume that we all survived infancy. We can also assume that nobody dies in childbirth in cRPG. We can also remove warfare as a factor on life expectancy because everyone knows that nobody dies from being killed in cRPG. (they just respawn)
tl;dr basically what b3rs3rk said.
If you got to the age of 21, the average was:
1200-1300 A.D.: 43 years (to age 64)
1300-1400 A.D.: 24 years (to age 45) (due to the impact of the Black Death)
1400-1500 A.D.: 48 years (to age 69)
1500-1550 A.D.: 50 years (to age 71).
Gotta love Wikipedia.
This means, if we talking 1400-1500, 48(Equals lvl 33)isnt even that unrealistic. And I guess you could still have all your fighting capabilities, too.
Color my character Mac n Cheese Orange and I'll still cut you in half.
