Spam in general is still heavily present
I see a guy in black lallemor armour, I don't go near him anymore. He just spams me to death. Anyone using a spmmitar spams me to death
A freaking PLATED 2-HANDER spammed me to death
Putting a bloody cap on weapon speeds. You shouldn't be able to swing a bar mace faster than a sickle no matter WHAT your wpf.

Spam can't really be fixed. Button mashing works in almost all computer or console fighting games and always has... M&B/Warband less so than most, but you still can win by spamming a lot of the time and so people do it. It would require very extensive changes, which may be beyond what a modder can do, to change it.

Spam isn't a big deal as is. It is a way to clear out the peasants and weaker players. Don't try to play the "i attack you attack" game with spammers, block them at least twice before making any sort of move and try to get out of range and reengage. It will take some practice but spammers set themselves up to die to someone who knows what he is doing.

Agreed, if you spam against a decent player, even if he's dressed up as a peasant, you are dead (i've seen a guy named imperial guard something own armored people that where spamming him and he was using only a pithfork and peasant clothes). The problem is not in the game, but in the players.

Spam was nerfed, for example at lvl 30 WM6 pre-patch you had 180 WPF, now you'll have 150 WPF. That's a pretty big nerf. Spam seems still present because of the light armors people now wear (the lighter your armor is the faster you are) and there is the lightning-fast Katana, that will probably get nerfed again. Usually spammers have 0 blocking skill, if you block one of their attacks they are dead.

The most server have a strange delay and without a super fast high-end i-connection, all your antispam hints are useless.

All those defending spam must be spammers themselves. I use 1h mace + shield and get good K:D, yet I still think spam is a problem. It's not true that spamming works in every game, some have fatigue implemented to prevent it, others have blocking mechanism that, if the block was very timely, delay the next swing of the spammer. Another thing that could be done against the spam is lower people's maneouverability, while they are swinging. And finally, the best solution would be to implement weapon wear and tear. Each strike that is blocked reduces the durability of your weapon, and this durability is used to determine whether your weapon simply breaks or continues to be whole.
Building a character with focus in the spicing of ham is easy, and it will push you to the top10 of the scoreboard. Something should be done to prevent that.

granted you wont be able to do damage but consider this; the longer this lvl 30 spammer is trying to kill a peasant , the longer he is NOT killing other people. Also after 3-4 succesful blocks, most spammers(not all players) will get tunnel vision and rage on you even harder trying to kill you, opening themselves up for lolstabs.
and I am FAR from an above average manual blocker and i can do this no problem..

While everyone seems to complaint about the katana speed, asking for a decrease, and yelling because it had 1SPD added, I'd like to remind you that the katana speed had actually recently been really decreased, and that the added speed is only an attempt to balance this serious nerf. The katana is still on top of 2H's speed, yet there's now a lot of other weapons faster than the katana.

That is the real problem. People just don't bother to manual block more than once or twice, and want to be able to spam back immediately. When I had my pure thrower, and got engaged in melee, I just usually switched to melee mode and just block till a friend helps me and backstabs the guy who was trying desperately to spam me.

Ninja spammers know how to block. Ninja spammer is not easy to kill but he wears light armor with crappy head armor which means one headshot and he's dead. The problem with 1H players is that most of them read some guide which says that you shoeld use diagonal slash and go for the head. Most of them do that first when they get in range. When I block them average players become confused and start slashing randomly, most of the time second slash is right hand slash which is easy to read and block. By that time they are dead. Tip for begginers in sword&board class: when you see a ninja or other 2H user using katana put shield on your back and outspam him and block his attacks manually with your spammitar.
Sickle sux anyway, it's meant to be used on slow guys with lot of armor, don't espect to kill a ninja with it. You have other 2 slots besides that sickle and your shield, use them to equip spammitar.

No, level 10 vs someone with 30 agi and many more levels on you is not a good example. A good example would be two equal level opponents. In your example, you're SUPPOSED TO DIE simply because of your level if playerskill is equal. You're lucky that the game itself even makes it POSSIBLE to kill that guy with 3x your level as a level 10 farmer.

I'm the slowest melee in the game with 27 str 3 agility atm... And they aren't problem at me. cuz i know how to block their attacks.

Bull, just having 1h character who is few level below spammer make spam successful. Problem lies in speed of 2h animations which are too good coupled with high damage of katana that allow good turning into strike and decent reach, that allow katana user to attack 1h user first.

Fatigue is the dumbest idea i have heard, might as well add a mana bar too and a few support spells. Warband has run JUST FINE for a long time without some poorly thought out fatigue system screwing up the dynamics.

I was on the duel server just a few minutes ago, I got a KD of like 70/6, 40 of those were done with a 1h sword with 0wfp and 21 agility, slow as hell. I still beat 95% of the people I faced, including ninjas with katanas, stimpy with 24 agility, 170wfp and staff, Longsword wielding agi-based light armor types, etc. etc.
I'm not sure what you people are complaining about.

In my opinion spam is always the fault the defender. If the defender does not counterattack then the attacker should and will press his advantage and attack again, and again, and again.
Players who don't understand this get repeatedly attacked, loose their cool in battle, mistime their counterattack, get killed, and then complain on the forums about spam, when really they just lost the initiative in their fight and got owned by a better player.
I've been on both ends of this type of attack... It's not spam, it's just the nature of melee fighting.

PArt of it is the new weight calculation for wpf. It seems to have disappeared or become negligible so you can wear plate mail and swing just as fast as a naked guy with your weapon. This originates spam where you can take a beating and so you spam away with your now extremely high speed elegant poleaxe, katana, etc. Whereas the naked guy usually has to know how to manual blocks 1 hit kills him. Still think the weight of your armor should actually affect weapon proficiency significantly as this seems to have been taken away post-patch.

Only if the kick animation could be changed to a shield blunt with a higher registered hit range, could we stop this spamming.

As you play on you learn to counter spam. As a newbie spam is frustrating and the root of all evil, after a few months you'll love coming up against a spammer as they are the ones who can't block shit. People who can block are the root of my frustration after 3 or 4 blocks I get bored and try to rush things usually ending in my death. Hate you miley and allers! evil bastards.

I don't want the computer telling me when i can attack and when i can't!!! I like to attack using my mouse when and where i want. Go play an easier game if you can't figure out how to beat someone who attacks the same way over and over again and doesn't block.

i have been called spamer alot (specially by shield users) but what they want me to do when they get the shield up? stop and say "hit me please"? i am not the best blocker, a decent blocker at most and i usually get hit by the first strike, so i hit the shield and wait for a moment to try to block if they atack if they don't do it i spam to try to break the shield or try to feint and after 2 or 3 hits they open the guard and if i'm lucky i hit the guy or if i dont i usually die in 1 or 2 hits because of my low armor :rolleyes: but usually i can spam spam spam until it breaks (and takes some time with katana) i tell you if i could fight myself with a shield ill kick my ass, i have 24 agi 170 (something) in 2h and an ugly tempered katana, yeah the speed makes me hit faster then some weapons but i can tell you that i can't make 2 hits before i get hited with any weapon... i will keep spamming because a turtle bite me when i was a kid and i hate them, if you dont want me to spam you, here is an advice: try click the lmb :P

Hey guys... there's a big difference between a 'spammer'
and someone with a better pc/isp higher WPF and better footwork.
Of course a big muscled dude(high lvl char) would be able to swing a mace around with the ferocity of 10,000 baboons.
It's not always getting spammed to death... it's that you just might suck? I 'spam' people to death on a daily basis and my main wep is a great maul... slowest shortest 2h around... it's heirloomed as well so it's even slower. Remember that if you click and hold your mouse button, that split second could be exactly what got you killed... not 'spam' Sure, Spam isn't healthy but damn bro, it doesn't kill.

*shrug* works for me! Even though my maul breaks face regardless of armor... from dudes wearing that fugly black armor to fools sportin' the birthday suit.
My favourite is picking out those dudes who put so much emphasis on kill ratios. Running to slay the under armored dudes... like a troll I come from under my bridge; break skulls and eat brains!

There are a few ways i see of stopping spam.
1.make all weapons the same speed(lame :D)
2.make there be some kind of knock back effect to the attackers weapon on a successful block or speed up the defenders weapon for a split second to make a riposte.
3.add in a stamina system, swinging constantly drains this in the end leaving you vulnerable.

The only one of those I could see working at all. The best way to avoid spammers? Adapt... react... get better.

Today, I was on EU_cRPG4. There was a dude called Duke_something or Something_Duke. He spammed. He never blocked, just took the hits and continued to spam. I killed him every time. The sad thing is, he didn't adapt or even try anything, he ran up towards an opponent and started the spam. His K:D was good. Not top of the list, but top10. Although I killed him every time, he always came back and tried the same spam on me. It was boring. Yet, for him, it was enough to be good in this game, because most other players were afraid of his spam, and died.
Now, if he had been higher level than me, as was the case with many of his victims, I would probably not have had a chance against his cooking skills.

The computer wouldn't tell you when you can attack, you'd be free to attack anytime, but with high fatigue, your swings would be slow.

Are you supposed to be able to swing a great axe so fast you can hit them again before the stun wears off?

I have noticed alot of great axe spammers and especially poleaxes (which didnt seem to have their speed nerfed unlike katana, scimitars, mauls, etc.) You block their first swing and try to swing back and they already are hitting you with their 2nd swing before you can get a hit back. That kind of spamming seems too fast as all you can do is block and hope you can circle around them and hit them well they whiff the air. And if you were wondering I was usually using a bastard or long sword which are pretty fast weapons to begin with.

That's not spam, they just make use of the stun effect. I also use a bastard sword on a regular basis, yet sometimes I need to block two hits with a heavier weapon before making my own swing.
There are some other tricks for making your swings appear faster. Combined with stun, this could be the reason for the "spam" effect.

The only weapon(s) truly spammable imo is the war spear and maybe some of the staffs. Reason being, with highish agi and prof a slash and stab combo is sometimes unblockable. There is like an extra long stun sometimes. This is countered by the fact the spear swing whiffs alot.

It's your damn feinting speed that gets me. Seems like my feints are telegraphed and easily countered by most competent players, while some peoples (yours, balbs, a few others) hardly seem like feints more than a random "twitch" in the attack animation at a random moment.

Don't forget reach! The only sure way I've found to combat these things with shorter weapons is to block multiple times and only counter-attack when an opportunity presents itself. Which I sometimes don't do when I get impatient...which, during battle, is always.

Not really, it's what I'm doing. I, personally, have no problem with spammers. But don't you think there is something wrong if you can get to the top of the scoreboard by only spamming right to left slash?

I've met fighters who can do this; their weapon's Speed combined with their Agi and WPF is such that you never dare counter, because you get hit whenever you try it. All you can do is block, until eventually you miss a block and die. Long Maces and Katanas seem to produce this effect most: if a ninja attacks me I get one shot at him while my sword outranges his and if he blocks it, I will be spammed to death.
