Title: I am officially retiring next week...
Post by: POOPHAMMER on May 15, 2016, 01:32:31 pm
From being an alcoholic! As many of you know, I drink like a fucking madman, long binge drinking sessions that really do me no good. I have been looking at how much I have been spending, and just how much I fucking drink (anywhere from 2-3 handles a week. That is 1.75 liters each for you EU folk, of hard liquor), I am really putting myself into an early grave and that's no good, not to mention I act like a total moron when drunk. So yes, next week I am buying one last bottle of some nice scotch then calling it quits.
I bet most of you never thought this day would come :P

I still think it won't come. The ole "Ah I'll use one last [insert drug of choice], last one I swear!" isn't a good start. Still, good luck with that. Your liver and the rest of your body will thank you.

Have you looked into anything for the withdrawal? It's gonna be harsh given the insane amount you usually drink. Like pale, shivering, cold-sweats painful.
edit: No idea of the validity of this site, but prob a good idea to give it a read and see if it's corrobarated elsewhere.

I am not anticipating any withdrawals, I have quit drinking for a few months before not because I wanted to but I had to for a bit, I never had anything like that

Good, I may be overestimating how much a drunk you are/were. Wouldn't want you to die of delirium tremens just cause you wanted to start feeling better. Hearing a blackout story involving you is always embarassing too. I (apparently) once threw a friend's friend's tv out of a window.

Do some strength and conditioning training, it's the best remedy. Takes up your time, releases endorphines, disciplines the mind aswell as the body. Alcoholism is about the worst thing you can do to yourself, I've seen quite a few people deteriorate under its influence, not pretty for anyone.
How much was your daily alcohol intake, and what kind of alcohol?

I normally drank stuff like rum/scotch etc (35-50+% ABV depending on what I buy), I can normally down about a quarter of a handle and be alright, I start getting pretty drunk at about halfway down the bottle.

You should start a campaign for other cRPG players, you can all go through detox together, metaphorically. Always way too many drunks on the servers. I'd estimate 90% of retarded trolls are merely idiot, asshole drunks.

Yes, good for you and best of luck. But on the other hand the statement that next week you're buying one last bottle, then calling it quits sounds an awful lot like so many smokers or drinkers that say "one more pack of smokes and I'll quit" or "I'll quit right after my next bottle" It really doesn't sound like commitment.

I wish you luck with that. I never really drank much hard liquor only beer, and the only time I successfully stopped drinking was when I was unemployed and couldn't justify buying booze with my unemployment check. But alas I found work again therefore found booze again =p. So basically wasn't doing it for the right reason.

Alcohol is addictive and bad as fuck for you. In the past I've binged through 1.75l bottles of disgusting vodka in a night, not being hung over until the day after next. Bad shit.
I tried stopping completely a few years ago. Did that for several months. Now I have a few beers a few times a week, and haven't been shitfaced in a long while. I just never buy liquor except for holidays a couple times a year. I just can't help it, I make it disappear at an alarming rate.

Slightly off topic, but having known some drunks, I was informed that once you abuse alcohol for long enough your tolerance counter-intuitively goes down. Something to do with the liver being damaged to a point that it's ability to absorb alcohol properly gets wonky. A real hardcore drunk will get absolutely shitfaced on a very small volume of alcohol. If it reaches that stage the person is usually drunk 24/7 anyways and sobriety is nothing but a distant memory.
That's BS, steroids aren't harmful if used properly.

The data for that image was in a Lancet article a while back. You can look up plenty of other studies comparing drugs as well, alcohol is almost always in "it's bad, real bad" territory no matter what metrics they are using to compare drugs.
That's BS, steroids aren't harmful if used properly.
It's a good thing everyone that uses steroids does so with counsel and assistance from medical professionals, and not just some posts on t-nation.com lol that would be fucked up

So??? Even Heroin is not harmful if used properly. I don't think this is supposed to show what happens when used properly but what happens when used adictively.

You know those times I write something and you're like, wth is this person talking about? You just can relate in any way to it. Alcoholic stories are same thing for me. Don't like it, so far in life took under five liters of different beverages. Will drink in company and I'm great at it but just ain't feeling it. Never took a sip alone. Same goes for drugs, same goes for tobacco, same goes for coffee. Actually its not same for tobacco, it is worse. I absolutely detest every person who smokes that shit, it is beyond disgusting. Got rid of white sugar as well...
Can you please try to explain why you need alcoholic beverages in your life because I don't seem to understand what's the big deal about it?
Want to escape from reality? Sure thing, lock yourself up for couple hours in a basement and play video games, watch movies, masturbate etc. No need to ingest some shit into your body, it is more than capable of producing addiction on its on.

Brains react very different to various drugs. some just give out so much rewarding messenges that the owner of these brains tent to take more of it. some brains hardly reward for alkohol (like yours) so there is no impulse to consume. so judging others is kind of unfair. just be happy you are not likely to get adicted and be sad at the same time that you don't get the same high from it like others do.

Dude, it makes giggly and warm inside, hard liquor at least. Can't stand beer, taste like piss...
But don't feel the need to drink more like I do when eating sugar (this shit nasty, glad I stopped using it). Don't find it addictive one bit.
Alcohol is bad but sugar is worse imho. Just waiting till they finally agree it is major cancer inducing agent. Whoever invented it should rot in hell.

You'll be back. Something about you tells me that. You need to be mentally unchained like me in order to stay away from addiction. Rest of you munchkins can't handle it. You think Oberyn and Gnjus are telling the truth when they claim to be free of cRPG? It's bullshit. Gnjus replaced cRPG with his old love WoW where he is again pretending to be some big nosed old chap while in reality he's nothing like it (neither I'm female for that matter). In Oberyn's case, void cRPG left has been filled with hatred to keep things short. They replaced one drug with the other.
You can't really walk away from your addiction if you aren't willing to gave up on your life at any given moment. Don't listen to bullshit they serve you, how you're getting your life back and other psycho crap so called experts like to sprout. For an addict, his addiction equals his life and only way to give up is to be able to accept the fact that your life is done. Only then you can truly move on and because most people aren't capable of doing so, they stay addicts throughout their miserable lives. You need to think, live and breathe like a butterfly, every new day is new life and that kind of crap in order to change something about yourself.

I always thought I was addicted to games.
But it turned out it was basically something I just used to waste spare time. And I had a lot of it. Whenever I did something else I didnt think of gaming even once. Turns out quite many think they or their family members have gamingaddiction, only to be later told by the psychiatrist that they most definately do not.

Or you can man up, realize that there's something outside, or better games to play if you're a lost case. cRPG is dead, 20 people on a server while there were full servers a few years back, is it that hard to realize playing this game nowadays is like beating a dead horse ?

Years have passed, thousands of hours, many epic duels and impossible last man standing situations. Yet my most precious cRPG memories involve me being completely random, newbie player on packed Pecores server dying at choke points to superhuman plated knights, over and over again.

This is only the case if you drink consistently every single day to the point that you would have withdrawals when you stopped. There are some people who are so heavily alcoholic that they have to get up for drinks in the middle of the night, or they won't be able to sleep. Ignore it, power through to the next day? Seizures start, and only get worse.

fun fact there are only 3 families of drugs that have withdrawals that can be fatal: the 3 fatal Bs Booze Benzos Barbituates
other withdrawals will make you feel like you're dying (lookin at you, opiates) but you'll fully recover if you can stay clean, alcohol is one of those things that you need to slowly ween off or risk dying.
use ur substances of choice responsibly friends, and good luck to anyone trying to get clean! not like any of you losers do drugs anyway you're not cool enough

I only buy liquor a couple times a year, for holidays. If there is liquor just sitting around my house it vanishes at an amazing rate. Beer is pretty much self-limiting for me, I get full/tired of drinking beer at somewhere around 6-8 drinks (12oz of regular beer each).
Only buying it a few times a year also means that I can go for the top shelf stuff and swing my bougie dick around hey look everyone look what i drink it's fancy!!
