Title: cRPG Standalone
Post by: Golem on January 20, 2016, 03:05:13 pm
Will cRPG become standalone once Melee has early access like for example Project Reality for Battlefield 2?

Or will you just shut cRPG down, when Melee gets released?

Have you considered this?

I guess as long as servers are getting paid there is no problem with keeping the servers up

Err you know that they already pay for 2 domains, and the servers..?
There is no reason to shut it down, just to more separate the stuff..

Err you know they might not want to pay for the servers in the future? Also aren't the servers paid from them donations?

When you have the ressources of an highly powerfull root server you're free to select of many crpg servers or later on melee servers.
Ofc they will need much ressources for the melee open world split shit, but who cares.
Until they got it done there are plenty of offical crpg servers hosted, later on maybe only strategus.
They're running multiple Servers with huge slots so it has to be an realy realy strong high end server anyway.

Okay maybe if u want to run those melee servers they might consider it a problem to have so many crpgs wasting their ressources that time.
In that case like ever since your able to create your own server and get connection to the backend system like ever since. (there was a time where they were not able to effort the monies for those servers, those days we set up an siege and dtv server with no problems).

But as long as there are so many offical servers there is no need for this again.

Otherwise be sure players will host their own dedicated servers and try to get connection as always.
As long as they pay for the webstuff, crpg will stay alive that's what I wanted to say.

Annoying is that Mount and Blade Warband server files are just using a single core at the time. So with 8 cores you can easily host 8 servers if every single core is strong enough. So I guess they will later on only host the domain and duell servers since they are needed for strategus.
Players can host the rest than those days.
But since they are not even close to get done with melee there is no need to talk about crpgs end.

MBG is going to replace cRPG so why would you want to play cRPG anyways? MBG will have similar game modes for instanced battles, so why bother with cRPG? Just wandering  :D

Edit: You used Project reality as an example. Project Reality is pretty much getting replaced by Squad (Similar relationship as cRPG and MBG) and it's likely quite a few players will transfer (Although probably more in the future since its in Early Access) which would leave PR almost dead.

Sorry if I confuse the hell out of you Golem, just read it very carefully and you should understand

You cannot even grasp a simple concept of separating a mod from the base game, I am done talking to you.

What if someone chops off the tip of your penis, when you're asleep?

I would congratulate them, for having the world's most precise and accurate microscope in the world. Something that small would require a very high powered microscope to find.

Hellsing perfectly answered your question.

No, it won´t become standalone because since now crpg is heavily based on mount and blade´s engine (and I bet not only on the engine itself) and well connected to the game. Ripping all those connection by implementing own mechanics while trying to imitate sorta most of the game code would be an assfuck-load of work. Also, donkey crew is busy with M:BG anyways, so this is sorta going to be the "standalone" version of cRPG anyways, just a bit different and with improved graphics (and no copyright-problems).

cRPG will most likely run parallel to M:BG for a while and most likely, people are going to switch to either MaB2 or M:BG (or both). Only a handful of players then will play the mod at that time (and with handful I really mean, like 10-20 people, NA and EU) and depending on the success of MaB2 and M:BG, most of the servers will probably be shut down after a couple of months of being emtpy. And most likely, as Hellsing already mentioned, some people will then set up one or two dedicated servers anyways.

Not quite sure you guys actually know what you're asking for, let alone what standalone means :P

I'm going to miss my looms, you know, when we all jump ship to Melee:Battlegrounds anyway.
But I suppose I'll get over it.

Vikingr for example is standalone, in a sense.(you dont have to have it in your Warband directory)
What I mean by stand alone, is not requiring buying Warband to play it. I thought this could be easily achieved by implementing a key generator, that is, if Talewords would even want to hear about something like that...

What is the value of a standalone cRPG? Just buy a damn Warband key for like 1€ or for however little they sell these days.

It says Tolonars online, and since Tolonar has only got 1hr 53 mins of time online, could this mean she is working on the next Devblog? She has only come online to post, so could it be that the next Devblog is coming!

The only useful thing to come out of this thread.
Maybe we should make a new thread dedicated to stalking Tolonar and figuring out when (and where from) he is online.
