Title: Classical music thread
Post by: Chosen1 on April 26, 2014, 02:37:19 am
Do any other fellow crpg-ers listen to classical music? If so, post whatever you like from whatever period on this thread. If not, just take a listen, maybe you will learn to enjoy it.
Don't link full symphonies or concertos, just post excerpts of it or something cause no one's going to want to sit through it all lol.
Here's some of my favorite to get started:
Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto
Beethoven's 23rd Piano Sonata "Appassionata" 3rd movement
Mahler's 5th Adagietto
Dvorak's Cello Concerto 2nd movement
Post away, fellow classical music aficionados.

I love Ludovico Einaudi.
Sit through this one, just play it in the background...
You will also love the Piano Guys on youtube

Haters gonna hate.
On a more serious note:
And my favorite among all:
Winter of Vivaldi is definately my favorite classical song. So much gentleness, yet so much emotion and beauty.

Hmm, well Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto sounds pretty similar. Its theme develops slower but it's incredible the first few times you listen to it.
Here's Mozart's 21st piano concerto 2nd movement, it may sound very familiar.
If you didn't like those, here is an arrangement of Schubert's "Schwanengesang", song no.7. It is just unbelievably beautiful
I hope I found what you are looking for?
It's kinda of late here and I'm going to sleep, I will post some more music tomorrow :D

Some of my favourites, a little bit of everything.
I admit it, this one is in because I first heard it in the movie "Master & Commander", but still...
The Beethoven piece at the end is pretty weird and it was far from being his own favourite, but I like it, dunno why.

Forever a big fan of "Die Moldau" TvT
(click to show/hide)
It´s sort of the story about the river "Moldau", the flutes at the beginning are the tiny rills wich grow bigger and bigger until they form the beginning of the "moldau" (first theme at 1:08), and as the river continues to flow, it always grows bigger and flows past a wedding and a hunt until it finally ends in the "Elbe". Don´t know if you can hear that out in this yt-version though
Debussy - Claire de Lune
(click to show/hide)
Schubert - Military March

Napoleonic Wars had a great version of this one
also love the fail-version ahahahahaha

How about some more Schubert? One of my favorite composers :D He only lived to be 31, but he wrote some of the best music of the 19th century. His music is so melodic and emotional, I love it. :)
Lots of music, I got kinda carried away lol.
From "Winterreise" song no.1 "Gute Nacht"
(click to show/hide)
His String Quintet in C major second movement, if you have time listen to the whole thing, it is truly a masterpiece.
(click to show/hide)
Another one in C major, his 9th Symphony, first movement. Such a modern sound, but this was written in 1840.
(click to show/hide)
Impromptu in G flat Major. Very emotional.
(click to show/hide)
Piano trio in E-flat major, 2nd movement, shortened version that was in the film "Barry Lyndon". Awesome melody.
(click to show/hide)
Ave Maria. No description needed

The sad moment when they are going to shut down all the orchestras, theaters in my country. Not really shutting down but retracting all governmental support. Since noone in private sector interested, it will die or tickets will be like 25-30€. My friends wont be able to find a job in their own country.

2nd page? :( I thought more people liked classical music.
Oh well, here's some romantic-era symphonies.
War Thunder, anyone? Beethoven's 7th 2nd movement.
(click to show/hide)
Brahms 4th Symphony in E minor, 2nd movement, very beautiful and modern sounding.
(click to show/hide)
Dvorak's "New World" Symphony 4th movement, performed at Pope Benedict XVI's birthday party, lol.
(click to show/hide)
The second movement of Beethoven's 9th, gives me goosebumps
(click to show/hide)
Schubert's 8th "Unfinished" Symphony, 1st movement. Very good, too bad he didn't finish the whole thing.
(click to show/hide)
Mahler's 2nd Symphony finale, one of the best finales in all of classical music.

That Handel piece!! OUFF. I love it. Hence why the Baroque period stands out in time -- at least to me.
Another favorite, early baroque composer, CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI.
I think the voices were transcribed to strings here.

Here is some lesser-known classical guitar music. "The Classical Guitar is a miniature orchestra within itself. " - Beethoven :D
Paganini's concerto for guitar and violin, just awesome.
(click to show/hide)
Concerto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, Adagio
(click to show/hide)
Recuerdos de la Alhambra, by Francisco Tárrega, so sad.
(click to show/hide)
La Catedral by Agustin Barrios Mangore
(click to show/hide)
Capricho Arabe - Francisco Tárrega. Very melodic :)
(click to show/hide)
And finally, Asturais by Issac Albeniz, it'd be a sin not to include it in any compilation of classical guitar music.
