Don't really do it justice. The city is almost the entire county, but those photos are of "Downtown." We got an entire beach section that's also part of the city.(The city and County are 1 and the same. The beach communities are run differently, but are incorperated into the Counties stuff. IE: The sheriff's office covers Duval County but the Beach communities are run by their own local groups due to the difference between inland and coastal communities needs.)

London, pretty damn varied. I live close to the Docklands, you get this crazy juxtaposition of the flats like mine and the financial district Canary Wharf, which is a 20 minute walk from home.

And that just scratches the surface of the atmosphere(s) of London.

CRPG has a diverse pool of players. I can't think of any other game I've played with such a wide community.

Here's my city: Syracuse, NY

Skyline isn't very impressive, but we do have some nice architechture:

As a kid I liked driving by this church, it made me think of faraway countries...

This time of year it mostly looks like:

But we are downwind of the Great Lakes. This can cause lake effect snow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_effect_snow):

We also have the sixth largest mall in the US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny_USA). It is full of Canadian tourists every weekend. I don't get why you would go out of the country on vacation to go to a mall full of chain stores.

Really neat seeing where you guys live! Good thread idea.

Over there in Europe, you guys keep and maintain old buildings with cultural and aesthetic value, but here in murrica we tear everything down that doesn't make money, and build shopping malls over them.
My dad is an architect, he could go on and on about how ugly american cities look compared to european cities...

I could swear that I actually sat on that terasse one afternoon with my parents while on a Norway holiday. I know it sounds stupid but buildings like these as a pub are rather rare I guess. It doesn't happen to be close the some small sportboat port or something? I think I remember a small port close by...

Probably just another place which happens to look very very similar...

ruins in the siebengebirge,  just outside of bonn.  rich history, next to an incident that might have been the origin to the story of snowwhite, the story of siegfried the dragonslayer from the niebelungensage takes place here,  in a cave at the drachenfels (dragonsrock)

the ruined castle drachenfels, it belonged to the archbishop of cologne and is on said drachenfels just over the rhine river
(click to show/hide)

view from the drachenfels to the lionscastle/ löwenburg (on the steeper hill center left),  which belonged to the herren von sayn,  the house from which also "snowwhites" character came from.
(click to show/hide)

the siebengebirge was the boarder region between the lands of colognes archbishop and the quite powerful family of sayn,  which is why it has a multitude of castles/fortresses.  this made it very appealing to the people in the romantic era,  which is why many  castles/chateaus/mantions where built there during that time:
just beneath the drachenfels,  you can find schloss drachenburg
(click to show/hide)

close by,  you have the hirschburg:
(click to show/hide)

the ruined burg rosenau:
(click to show/hide)

and then there is ofc the löwenburg itself:
(click to show/hide)

and the ruined monastary heisterbach:
(click to show/hide)

i wish i could show you just how close all these things are (there are even more ruins and castles but i cant be arsed to put them all together here).

in a days hike,  you can practically visit a hand full of beautiful chateaus, 3 ruined castles,  see two more on the other side of the river, visit  the mountain on which the biggest castle used to be (which was torn down to build a nearby city and the dome of colonge), one fake ruin from the romantic era,  the caves in which snowwhite was raped and murdered by the seven dwarfs,  a V1 launching pad,  the ruins of a weaponsfactory and of a bewildered mansion,  a handful of bunkers and other weird ruins and shit you cant even tell about what it is.

Nobody should live here actually, this place is boring is f.ck, local people are very arrogant, narrow minded and discriminative, no life on streets, 2nd most expensive city in the world, terrible food, terrible weather. A lot of gold in the banks though ... But seriously, don't bother to come here, waste of time and money ...

Well yeah, very small and not really a port, and this kind of boats

Is there a rather big sawmill in the town? I remember driving down a mountain side (left side mountain/right side bigass sawmill or at least some wood industry)...

I lived there for two years, too. I agree that the people are kind of arrogant and shallow. But terrible food? Zurich has a lot of great Restaurants, with food from many different cultures of the world. Also, the weather is not much more terrible than in the rest of the country. Nightlife is pretty typical for western Switzerland, it's concentrated on a few popular clubs, and the rest of the city is almost dead. The lake is pretty nice during summer, and there are a few forested hills nearby that are great for jogging.

Overall, I agree with you, though, Switzerland in general is not very attractive for foreigners. It's very, very small, in everything. It has beautiful places, but for young people, it isn't very interesting. You should have gone a bit further to the north, to Munich or Berlin.

Well there are a few sawmills around, only one big still active, the one you describe sounds like 25-30 minute drive from where I live, so odds are you ate at my pub

Tourists who drive through Norway tend to drive past where I live, when coming down / going up the mountain passes leading west to Stavanger or further north, it is the most scenic route afterall. Lots of german tourists in their caravans during summer

I found the food terrible due to my reference cuisine (Turkish). (Please don't mention the bullsh.t kebab stores which cooks terrible "kebab", I'm truly sorry for European people that are put to eat that nonsense, anyways ...) Sure there are many restaurants around, but it takes you to have a huge pocket to afford tasty large portions (still referencing my cuisine). I still haven't come up with a reasonable explanation why would someone fill the half of a plate with 20 boiled potatoes? Or eat spinach with fish?

I have come to the conclusion that this damn town is good for people who are 70+, and seeking for a nice place to die. Definitely not for young people, or foreigners in general ...

The world is a village sometimes...

I probably won't ever again visit Norway w/o my Motorbike tho... Arriving at Kristiansand, driving like 50m straight and then it already starts going upwards! :D
I don't get people slowing themselves artificially down by using a fucking caravan.

I love the Lyseboten-route coming from the... I think it's the Eastern approach... or the way towards the Southkap at Lindesnes or Lindsnes (something like that). Norway is the place where I had my best times on a bike ever. If it just wasn't so god damn expensive over there. :D

There are some restaurants with turkish cuisine in Zurich, I remember the "Meze" and the "Manesse", but I have no idea if they serve "original" dishes. And yes, most western europe kebab is pretty terrible. There is a huge supplier that supplies almost all kebab vendors in Switzerland, which is why most of the Kebab you can get is exactly the same.

And about the price...why the fuck did you go to one of the most expensive cities in the world if you can't afford it? Seriously...

The city wich i identify with eventhough i dont officialy live in it (still we are directly border to it) is hannover, the capital of lower-saxony:

The new town-hall, the football-stadion and the Maschsee (the lake). The Maschsee is made by human hand under the chocolate chip cookie´s regime to give a high number of workless people something to do. It got a area of ~0.78 km² and got a average deep of 2 meter.
(click to show/hide)
If there if a new townhall there need to be an old!
(click to show/hide)
The centralstation:
(click to show/hide)
Also there is the saying: "Wir treffen uns unter dem Schweif." Wich means in english: "We will meet under the tail." If somebody is saying that to you he meant to meet under the rider statue infront of the centralstation
(click to show/hide)
We also got a beatiful aristocratic garden called "Herrenhäuser Gärten":
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
In this garden there is every year a internationally fireworkcompetition:

In my opionion its quite fascinating how fast the city was rebuild after 1945. Due the air raid (Hannover was a transport nodal point and had some strategic factories) the city was destroyed by ~90% and only 50% of the flats were useable.

Over there in Europe, you guys keep and maintain old buildings with cultural and aesthetic value, but here in murrica we tear everything down that doesn't make money, and build shopping malls over them.
My dad is an architect, he could go on and on about how ugly american cities look compared to european cities...

I'd take tons of sI love youcrapers, new futuristic buildings with perfect design over old grey buildings that are just kept for historical value.

Minneapolis, MN (looking from the north to the south), the main "city" I grew up by.  Grew up in a Northwest suburb, living in a south suburb now.

Minneapolis:

Suburb I grew up in (there's no aerial views I can find from an airplane or helicopter), grew up near the tiny red square, it's all suburban sprawl around the minneapolis/st paul area though (from urban to suburban for about 30 minutes in every direction from the center of the urban areas)

Marseille is not so expensive, but this is the place with the most gang killing in France (this morning a father was shot in front of his son).

I live in north west of France, in Nantes :

Because it's full of Dutch people.

Haarlem is fairly laid-back compared to most other Dutch cities though. But I agree that the densely populated parts of the Netherlands kinda suck. High population density tends to make people more stressed and distant. I'm originally from Friesland, and people are generally a lot friendlier there.

I envy you - such a beautiful city. I did a project there during my university time. So many students, always good weather (at least from April to June when I was there) and friendly people if you don't try to talk English with them

French not willing to talk in anything but French... that's the normal state for the whole country.

Had to make a scene with a dude at the airport once to make him tell me in English to which gate my flight was switched to. Freaking camenberts! :P

never had problems with people refusing to speak english in Paris, literally everybody knows the language and are willing to speak it. Ok there was an old arab dude down in Vitry that didn't really speak it but enough for me to buy stuff in his shop.

The French I've met have appaling language skills. But not as much as Spaniards or Americans. The thing is, French isn't widespread enough to justify it. Even though it's a poor justification anyway.

I've lived all over the South/West United States.  My mom is 30+ years U.S. military so, we moved a lot while I was a kid.  Some of the pictures are huge.. didn't feel like resizing them.   :)

I am currently in Mainz, Germany until March:

(click to show/hide)

Was born right next to San Francisco but moved, moved back in 2005-2008.  Great city, unfortunately was too young to enjoy it properly.

Albuquerque, New Mexico.  This is where I lived Jan-Dec 2013 and where I moved to Mainz, from.  It's also where I'll be going to college in the fall. Took the first pic myself.  Another great city.  Pretty arid but I like it, definitely a lot to see and do there.  Balloon Fiesta is also really interesting.. although I think the people who go up in those things are crazy.. it provides a cool and rather unique feel, as you drive into the city and see hot air balloons everywhere.

And finally, the glorious NOLA.  New Orleans, Louisiana.  Absolutely love this place, and I can't post enough pictures or say enough about it.  Essentially grew up here, and it's great.  Favorite city I've ever been to, US or Europe.

Check out some cool medieval shit. Yeah, some blame us for capitulating in WWII, but IMO wise decision by government. We could do nothing anyway. We would be creamed and loose all this beautyfull history.

The style is everywhere here, its not just a few historic buildings. Pretty much all towns and cities in Scandinavia, have their own collection of medieval buildings. Love it ♥

Lol... said the guy who lives in Marseille (who elected Extrem right wings in big part of the city)
And for the european vote, again your region elected in top a extrem right wing member.

Only "Ile de France" & "Ouest" elected Right-wing members in top % for their region...
In fact, maybe the headquarter was here (they sold it, because it was enormous and they had no more money) but YOU are the extremist nationalist PEPE, not us !

EDIT: link to see in % who voted for the extrem-right nationalist (use the animed map to see)

Call me a pedant but I don't find that picture very representative of East London... more South East imo

Edit: my gut tells me they are from Croydon, no reason in particular, just got a Croydon vibe

We have music festivals in the summer where people set up food stalls with all types of food from a lot of different cultures.
