Post by: Elmuri on October 17, 2013, 05:45:05 pm
Tell us what you did, for how long or something more. I'll try to report everything worth mentioning here

I'll start:
Thursday the 17th October
Swimming 40 min
(Bicycling 30 min)

I hadn't swum in years, now have been for a few times lately, it's way funnier than I remembered.

commercial bullshit
Read a good book like starting strength or overcoming gravity and you basically know all you need.

My workout (got kinda fucked up with the start of the new semester)
monday: full body calisthenics
tuesday: rest/cardio
wednesday: full body calisthenics
thursday: rest/cardio
friday: full body calisthenics
saturday: swimming
sunday: swimming (+progression check if needed)

most important is what you eat though.

Whom of you uses proteïn drinks?

I used to drink protein shakes regularly some years ago, but back then I was at the gym at least 4-5 times a weak, and was almost 10 kg more than now, with at least 8 kg of that being muscles.
At the moment I am at the gym 3 times a week, sometimes 4. I gave up on drinking protein shakes, I just take 4 full meals per day, and always eat quite alot when I come home from the gym.
Drinking protein shakes surely can be a good idea if your normal protein income is low, but I drink around 1 L of milk per day, eat alot of cheese, sausages and meat. I think thats more than enough protein, especially when you "only" go to the gym 3-4 times a week.
When you are working out almost every day I think a bit of supplementarys is a must though, cause you can't eat chicken and other low-fat aliments several times a day and every day. In this case it's actually cheaper to just supplement instead of buying and eating protein containing things like a machine.
Dude i did it for a month and gained 2 or 2.5 kilos was crazy, went so fast. You really blow up with that stuff, didnt really like it and quit it after, too fast and its different somehow then school started and i havent been there since no time study and chilling goes before ha

Sorry for trolling/posting partly off-topic, but aren't there already like 4 threads where people post their daily fitness programm?

I'd really appreciate a thread where we can brag about the amount of bags of potato chips (crisps for you britmy old friends) that we consume each day. I feel so excluded...

EXERCISE!

I'm doing Jim Wendler's 5/3/1. Day before yesterday was glorious deadlift day, and it looked like...
Deadlift: 5/3/1 sets 255lbs on the last set.
More Deadlift: 5x10 at 155
Plank: 2x2:00mins

Today's Bench Day. Will be great.

I also started running again. A long day and a short day each week after deadlift or squat workouts. I hate cardio, but I'm getting fat so its gotta happen.

Doing a plank for 2 minutes is nice. Most people can barely handle it for 30 secs. Highest I've ever seen was a guy who did it for 5 minutes. That's hardcore.

How do you like 5/3/1? Its very slow so I never got the hang of it.

Jesus. A 5 minute plank sounds horrible. I find that planks are more about intestinal fortitude than conditioning, after a certain point.

I love 5/3/1. Its a great program for slow and steady strength gains, imo. It's definitely slow. A whopping +5 lbs on your bench or OHP every MONTH. Ugh. I miss the steady progression of my early days of bro-splits and Starting Strength  :D

I also like the flexibility and simplicity of it. What're u doing now, Taser?

Yeah the guy had insane core strength. Had decent lifts otherwise but his core definitely outshined the rest of his lifts tbh.

And yes that absolutely turned me off about 5/3/1. I'm still able to progress with 5-10 lbs weekly (with resets) so I'm milking it for all its worth before doing something like 5/3/1.

I'm doing a modified madcow's 5x5. I love madcow's routine. Just added in some dips and chins to it along with planks. I want to do weighted dips soon but waiting until I hit 3x15 for dips to start weighted. My bench sucks so I figure the weighted dips will help that out as I figure out where I'm weak. I've only gone up to a minute for planks cuz my core is the suck so 2 minutes is nice.

My bench sucks too

And I can't do dips without my shoulder hurting, which sucks cause I like them. Oh well

Should start our bench sucks crew.

And yeah they're a great tricep exercise. Why does your shoulder hurt doing them? Previous injury? Could do tricep extensions or something in their place if you don't already.

What does this mean?
I just meant I don't do splits like usual lifters (starting strenght etc..), Basically this is my routine:
2.5 minute pause between every set, alternating two exercises of opposing muscle groups (or push/pull) so I have a 5 min pause between the sets of the same exercise

3 x 5-8: weighted pull ups and weighted dips
3 x holds: front lever (progression) and planche (progression)
3 x holds: back lever (progression) and L-sit (to manna progression)
3 x 5-8: handstand pushups (progession) and pistol squats (each leg)

plus ofcourse warm up, stretching and cooldown if needed.

No idea why my shoulder hurts.

The handles on the dip thing are really far apart, which might be it.

I just do many many reps of OHP and Bench on those days.

Lol doing ohp when your shoulder hurts is the worst substitute for dips. Its a hyperextended push exercise that works the shoulders, just like handstand pushups.
Let it rest a bit and work around it (you can still do very light high rep to revalidate now) and dont forget to warm up your muscles before training!

I stopped doing exercises a long time ago, almost a year now.

And I'm eating too much without moving enough again.

Thank you thread, I start going on the right path again.

Buying more fruit instead of crap next time, might as well put the trash food I got at home where it belongs.

Just when I thought I had found a community that is as out-of-shape and against exercise as I am..... I just wanted to be woefully ignorant, but now I am worried I'll die from being too pathetic. I guess this means I have to start doing something other than c-rpg.

Start with no longer drinking your calories. Stick with water (milk is good, bit dont start drinking a gallon unless you know gomad). Diet coke has no calories and isnt a bad idea on special occasions, but just know that you will get sugar cravings from the shitload of aspartame.
Try to move more (either exercise or implemented in yo
ur daily lifestyle)
If you are eating and know you are not hungry anymore, just stop. If you feel hungry or start craving drink two glasses of water anfd weight a while. If you still feel hungry, try to substitue the bad food with healthier (read less calories and sugar) substitutes.

Voila your first steps to a healthier lifestyle and especially to losing weigt are set.

Well, that's generally a bad idea. Varies from gym to gym, though. Whatever you do, I highly suggest a little research. Read some books about diet and nutrition. Starting Strength is good, as is any recent textbook on nutrition and diet. I dicked around for forever before trying to understand what I was doing, and I regret every day of ignorance.

Today: Deload day for bench press. I hurt me knee standing up from a chair, of all fucking things, so no cardio for me. Maybe I'll cycle or swim, but even swimming's probably going aggravate whatever ligament I fucked up.
