The only thing I can think about what you mean is being very high lvl with fully loomed gear which makes getting kills much easier, but still anyone who got 34+ lvl isn't really bad.

Sorokopud from SB . actually one of the best 1h i know , plus a decent  guy afaik.. sadly cant say that of most other SB members .. but i really like that one guy ^^

The only thing I can think about what you mean is being very high lvl with fully loomed gear which makes getting kills much easier, but still anyone who got 34+ lvl isn't really bad.

That particular guy doesn't pull off a great score on a regular basis. But his high str 2h build combined with the sheer will of not blocking anything does catch people unaware sometimes. Also the ability to run circles randomly into a flock of enemies while swinging wildly. The stats only add to the fact that those types get utterly destroyed in chaos-free situations.

I would nominate myself. Most of people would beat me in duels,and i am not that good melee blocker (i know to block,but i am not pro at it),but i always menage to be in top 5-6 players in my team in EU1. :D

No, unless you define being good as doing good (in which case the former concept loses its point) those things are linked but different. Effectiveness is very far from being a direct measure of skill as countless other factors influence it. The worst player in the world can have good results with an optimised build and a careless attitude. Mediocre cav and ranged can stack peasant kills. Everybody can avoid fights they don't think they will win, only attack when there is a possibility to gank and so on. All of that is nice, but it isn't skill. If you think having a good str/agi balance, good loomed armor, a long and powerful loomed weapon and swinging mindlessly is part of skill, you are deluded.

I don't know any bad players that do good but I do know bad players that can do well

I think Niten_Doraku has to be my favorite. He's a 35 triple loomed juggernaut swinging his long hafted blade in complete disgregard of his opponents movements.
Also a nice guy overall.

Anyone can have good awareness, reaction time, aim and blocking skills etc.
What you talk about is the most important skill of them all. Because if you instantly rush the worst possible opponent in the enemy every round, you will be very ineffective.
I would say the best player is the one with the highest average multiplier.

Well yeah that is only in terms of battle win/loss. If your goal is getting better at the game or having fun, you will prefer putting yourself in challenging situations. I'm not talking about systematically rushing alone in battle, more of a middle ground between that and always sticking behind other players.

Choosing a good build and good gear for that build (or the other way around) is very much a part of the game and is tied into skill yes.
Take a look at the guys who win rounds for their teams, what are they using? How are they playing?
Go to EU1 and spectate the good melee players, see how they do it. I think you will find out that a large part of their success is a good build and gear loadout coupled with awareness and teamplay.

Its very hipster and kewl to run around naked and get oneshot, but you arent helping your team any more than random_peasant01.

Bad players do bad, good players do well. Anything else is a contradiction.
Ofc only if you consider "doing well" not only  as "manual blocking well", but being effective in battle which is (as people said above) not the same thing.

I think we will get nothing out of this "argument", even though it is a remarkably civil discussion. We aren't discussing what makes a bad player be effective but what is the definition of skill, and that is not what I intented to start with this thread. If skill is defined as effectiveness, then ok, I understand that my grandmother in plate is more skilled than naked me. My point is such a definition is nothing short of completely useless, so stop using it. Let me be more specific : find players that win by playing safe and with an optimized setup yet would lose against the same opponents with random team numbers, builds and equipment.

There are things about having an agile build that makes it very easy compared to a strong build and vice versa.
This is something that many players, even good ones, doesn't seem to understand. Instead they judge someone's skill by build and equipment.

Dunno... Vandamme for being such an opportunist lancer it's almost admirable. I don't think he is that good player overall (other styles than cav). Maybe he has alts that I don't know of and he is actually good at everything idk but he doesn't seem to be too good on foot. He is always throwing those "sucker punches" at everyone. Sort of ADHD "they see me rollin' they hatin" lance style imo. Attacks really often. Annoying as fuck, but you can't be a good lancer these days if you don't use those small moments of distraction to your advantage.

To sum it up he's goddamn good lancer. He has a good eye for opportunities and he doesn't waste any of them.

ducks are pretty bad in general but from time to time they still top the scoreboard
on a serious note i think abdulla is my real hero because hes the worst and best and most awesome player
