Title: Hoplite Gameplay Video

Turns out that with WSE 2 I can actually record gameplay of cRPG, which I did. I present thee, 9 fucking minutes of me playing this game this afternoon, filled solely with stabbing. Masterfully put together using Windows Movie Maker. I would have put some music in it, but I couldn't find 'Let the bodies hit the floor' on my computer and finding something else that is somewhat appropriate and not silly is hard. Camera work can be described as spastic at best, and sadly you can't really read all my e-peen scoreboards that I flash through out the video. I was too lazy to make proper fade ins and outs between clips.
Nevertheless enjoy, kudos if you make it all the way through.

Quality of what I recorded was a lot higher than what came out after I published it on youtube, is that always the case or did I fuck up somewhere?

Some nice gameplay there! :) Some of the video quality is lost when you save/render the video from Windows Movie Maker but thats just normal. You can mess around with the settings sometimes to get higher quality but this looks good when it's on 720p. Some of the "more professional" video editing software can produce higher quality when it is rendering out but the file sizes are bigger and it costs alot more! :D

21/21 level 34 build of doom with 7 WM, 5 IF and 3 shieldskill. MW Ashwood and MW Round shield. Shield skill is overrated.

Did you get the part where me and you are attacking on siege. we heroically kill everyone around the flag. Just us two attackers with 3 seconds left to go. We both see a peasant and go to kill it moving away from the flag.. Insta defender win :D
would make a good video is all im saying ^^

Heh I was going to ask what's your shield skill but you already answered that. I'm going to have 3 shield skill too when I'm lvl 34. Still using 6 ps because 7 ps is overrated :wink:

Doing that will just ruin the effectness of Hoplites. Hoplites are best when paired with a shielder, having a number of hoplites is pointless (downblock).
Also Byzantium already have enough fucking Hoplites... Gravoth, Korgoth, Teeth, Kutlas, Phoenix, Corsair
and not to mention all the bloody hoplite alts that people use.

Actually Gravoth and me work pretty well as a pair, he was playing the entire time that I was recording. Even though I didn't have teamspeak on we both did very well and I intentionally put some clips of that in the video. He just dances around them with his buckler and 9 athlethics. You can't downblock when one is behind you. 8-)
But yeah, the amount of hoplites is getting ridiculous, especially inside our own clan, but also in general. We need mauls.
There is also Tzar who is hoplite now, and Ujin sometimes as a hybrid.

Haven't watched the video yet, but am curious to see how well EU hoplites play. From reading it sounds very good. Reason why, is frankly, I could name about 4 or less decent NA hoplites. Then when battling EU players in Strat I've always been met with reactions along the lines of "Wow, did not expect that from a hoplite." Or simply how popular hoplites were in NA.

If hoplites had equial chances with other classes in duel, they would be obviously overpowered. All you need to duel as hoplite is to put your shield on your back, it's not that hard really.

It's really effective there as well, as everyone is so surprised by the speed of it, made so many people rage at it, but it's good to know it works elsewhere haha, not just cRPG yoloinstastab

I wouldn't say a hoplite with 2 different directions would be anywhere near equal in duel. A fast stab that glances at close range, and a (most likely) terribly slow low damage overhead. If you think that matches up equally against the capabilities of other weapons...

The issue with giving hoplites an overhead stab is less the 1v1 balance, and more the issue with the old 'pike thresher' effect we used to have in NA. The issue is, once you hit a critical mass of hoplites (similar to pikes back when they had the overhead), it will be pretty much impossible to get in range to strike without a shield. You will have to simultaneously block up and down.

Whoever put hoplite in the supportive class? It wont become suddenly OP if it had another attack direction... Why couldnt it just be as good for a skilled player in duel too? I'm trying to make it equal yo

It WILL become suddenly OP if hoplites had another attack direction. What you're doing now is basically speculating with "you have four attack direction, why do we have only one?", completely missing the advantages your class has over those who use 4-directional shorter weapons with shield, I mean reach and horse-rearing. Hoplites is supportive class because in it's current state they're only good in supportive role. If you add them another attack direction without cutting their supportive abilities - clearly you'd make them OP.

They nerfed down turnspeed so we cant kill anybody in duels that way (if the other one blocks down). They nerfed down polestagger, so forget about using that. if half the server is full with hoplites... Well this is the way to make these 'noobs' stay and dont go try another game. Make hoplies USABLE in duels, i DO NOT want them OP. Just usable.
Maybe an overhead strike is stupid, a little shieldbash? a way to stike the foe in the head if he doesnt upblock. Just something...
If they were really just meant to be supportive, then they'd be handing out cookies. ;)

the fuck dude, you just put the shield away and you gain overheads and possibly sideswings and can duel all you want, its a versatile weapon, thats why so many people use it, stop being a lobbying idiot. you even see teeth do this a few times in the video (to help a teammate with two directions at once), he's just simply too effective at point blank stab abuse/kicks to need to do it often.
I can understand wanting war spear getting a few more damage on sideswings but you are just being full out ign'nt

Hoplites are able to be used in duels, they've got another attack outside of the thrust already, and it's called a kick.
