Nice Video teeth. Against my expectations I watched the whole thing. Never did get boring. Quite the opposite.

Doing that will just ruin the effectness of Hoplites. Hoplites are best when paired with a shielder, having a number of hoplites is pointless (downblock).

Also Byzantium already have enough fucking Hoplites...
Gravoth, Korgoth, Teeth, Kutlas, Phoenix, Corsair

and not to mention all the bloody hoplite alts that people use.

Actually Gravoth and me work pretty well as a pair, he was playing the entire time that I was recording. Even though I didn't have teamspeak on we both did very well and I intentionally put some clips of that in the video. He just dances around them with his buckler and 9 athlethics. You can't downblock when one is behind you. 

But yeah, the amount of hoplites is getting ridiculous, especially inside our own clan, but also in general. We need mauls.

There is also Tzar who is hoplite now, and Ujin sometimes as a hybrid.

Haven't watched the video yet, but am curious to see how well EU hoplites play. From reading it sounds very good. Reason why, is frankly, I could name about 4 or less decent NA hoplites. Then when battling EU players in Strat I've always been met with reactions along the lines of "Wow, did not expect that from a hoplite." Or simply how popular hoplites were in NA.

Nobody gave me any good reason why to stop my question for equality for  a hoplite in DUELS.

I asked wolves_quis the question... And he reponded when the other one downblocked he just put his shield on his back... But why then even invest in a shield if you have to put it behind your back??

 Guys with swords(or whatever) and shield dont have to put their weapon on their back to be effective so why should we?


why would you guys have 4 attack directions and we only one? true, we have reach, but give us at least 2, not like we can feint that easily.

You see, hoplite is a supportive class that has both great survivability and long reach, it isn't really supposed to be effective in duels. If hoplites had equial chances with other classes in duel, they would be obviously overpowered.
All you need to duel as hoplite is to put your shield on your back, it's not that hard really.

It's really effective there as well, as everyone is so surprised by the speed of it, made so many people rage at it, but it's good to know it works elsewhere haha, not just cRPG yoloinstastab

I wouldn't say a hoplite with 2 different directions would be anywhere near equal in duel. A fast stab that glances at close range, and a (most likely) terribly slow low damage overhead. If you think that matches up equally against the capabilities of other weapons...

The issue with giving hoplites an overhead stab is less the 1v1 balance, and more the issue with the old 'pike thresher' effect we used to have in NA. The issue is, once you hit a critical mass of hoplites (similar to pikes back when they had the overhead), it will be pretty much impossible to get in range to strike without a shield. You will have to simultaneously block up and down.
