Hey guys,
I'm a new player with wild and offputting ideas. Even if you think they're stupid, perhaps you might play along, just for the sake of fun?
The idea is a naked build - IE, no body armor - designed to kill as fast as possible without getting hit. To that end, I won't use any Iron Flesh - like I said, getting hit is not an option.
Now here's the kicker - I want to use the Great Maul. Seems the quickest tool to get the job done. But, I don't want to be completely defenseless when charging an archer, so... a little throwing?
What do you think? Any suggestions? If you were to do this moronic build, how would you do it? What's the minimum PA and 2-handed prof I could get away with, while still packing a punch, so as I have some room to train a little throw?

i guess you dont want to be banned from the servers because you have a new build and didnt know the rules yet. I dont think there is a single server where you are allowed to play naked. all admins and players will instantly start to warn/kick/ban you.
just so you know:
official servers (EU_CRPG_X) and EU_CRPG_HRE rules: body armor and a weapon are obligatory
probably all other servers too
but still you might want to try the lightest armor you find, as long as you wear something
anyway on the build:
*indeed, ironfles is SUPER useless without armor
*dont take long maul, it is too slow and you will need some str. to be able to use it. This will make you slow enough to get shot by archers or hit by infantery
*"never getting shot" => most stupid idea ever: you are naked, no matter how fast you are, every archer will aim for your balls and try to get the easy kill. you cant zigzag all the time and you also dont want that. btw alot of archers can predict where you go and shoot you while zigzagging

Only two suggestions, experiment with a Character calculator:

2nd set of advice is not to use a great maul. You're a fast moving player trying to avoid being hit. You should be using a fast and/or long weapon that will help you avoid enemy hits.
The Great Maul is slow and heavy, when you chamber the weapon you're going to be moving slow and people WILL be able to move into range to hit you. Since it's not very long you're going to have to get close to hit these people, but since it's also slow, they will be able to hit you before you hit them (in theory), thus negating the crushthrough and damage of the Great Maul.
I'd personally suggest going with a long polearm (like the long bardiche) it is somewhat slow, but it's strong and has good reach. You really should be using a weapon that's either slow but long, or has a fast swing speed.
A polearm would work for being long (but relatively slow) and hit hard. For a fast weapon, I'd recommend going with something that has the best of all worlds (medium strength, medium length, pretty fast) and that would be something like the faster 2h swords.

Hmm, I played for a few hours last night on a NA server with a proto-build, and nobody seemed to mind... definitely died more than I killed, but I was carrying my own weight enough to avoid pissing people off. But, maybe you're right. Could pose a problem later, I suppose.
Also, what's leeching?
And yes, "never getting shot" is impossible. But I don't mind getting taken down every here and there. It's about glory, after all.
So you guys suggest an agility build, for a light-armored (if not naked) character?

Leeching is intentionally not contributing to the team, usually by not spawning with a weapon and idling. Spawning naked (without armor) isn't leeching, as with a weapon in hand even a naked man can take out a significant number of the enemy.
A good naked build for the great maul is probably 21/21. 7 ath, 7 PS, 3 WM. If you really wanted throwing in there you could go 21/18 with 6 PT, 6 ath, 7 PS, 4 WM, as much prof as is needed for your 6 PT (13*6=78 prof with no loss from armor weight, the rest goes into 2-hand). Or you could go 4 PT (enough to use Heavy Throwing Axes) and opt for more WM for more 2-hand prof.

Leeching is basically only joining a server and either going afk or being a drain that does not contribute to the team.
There are several different variants of leeches in the land of c-RPG and it would be impossible to catch and examine all different species and their habits.

Well, My character (Naked_Fanatic) is anything but that. I throw myself in with the best of them. It's just a question as to how.
EDIT: I see now (learning how the site works) that my kill ratio for that first few hours was 2 kills for every 17 deaths. That might actually count as leaching, haha. But then again, I was still getting gear.

playing nude on NA is not leeching as long your contributing to the team it should be fine

maybe being naked isnt leeching, but it is certainly against the server rules and bannable

NOT OK: Standing around away from keyboard. If you're away, switch to spectator mode
NOT OK: Running around without no weapon. Not contributing is leeching, naked runners don't contribute. This point does not apply to Rageball, as long as you are actually playing the game.

I think you misread the cmp quote. Naked runners don't contribute. the only place our friend here is running, is into the fray, with a weapon trying to get kills. that is not leeching, that is mortal combat of the nudest variety. he is not naked kiting unarmed.

I'm with Bronto on this. It's perfectly fine to run around without armor if you're still trying to contribute to the fight.
Also, it's pretty funny that the guy here that's screaming rules back and forth has the username no_rules_just_play

I have a naked alt that's 27/12 that uses a iron staff. It kicks ass. I might have gone 24/15 for more ath but I wanted more PS to kill things faster since I don't want extended fights when I'm naked.

There was temporarily. We brought the idea over from mount & gladius.
I was in the naked fanatics. Check the steam profile 8-) But we took it even further and formed "The Hoplites" where for a good 2 months we ran around with no chest armor, no boots, a shield, a spartan helm, and a spear.

To not get shot by archers you resort to...throwing? What.
If you are going to be naked, bring a shield. I heard it stops arrows every now and then and is a real turn off when archers are looking for someone to shoot.
Other than that, great maul is fine. You are naked so you will be fast.
Leeching is not having a weapon, not having armor is usually fine.

No way, there was a clan called the Naked Fanatics? I missed the party.
As for archers, I'm pretty good at dodging when I can see who's shooting at me. It's sneak shots and shots when I'm climbing stairs/ladders that get me. But no, there is no real contingency plan there.

dude you can play naked. its the weapon that matters. the admins get pissed if you spawn without weapons.

This holds true
Not too sure about admins going on a kicking/banning spree just because your nude. As long they spawn with a weapon and fight it's fine.
This build after all is just min-maxing

If you want to be naked, and be able to chase archers and defend yourself from the 1 hit that can take your life, I suggest going steelpick with cavalry round shield, perhaps a 12/21+ /12/24+ build. If you get a mw steelpick its even more damaging.

You will be surprised how many hit's you will need to kill an enemy. I would rather suggest 1 of the new crazy 2h cutting axes (like great axe) or classic mornigstar. With 7 PS and Mighty Great Maul I was killing in 2 or 3 hits (siege and rather 3 than 2 and those were pure hits, not crush through). Take something faster but with good damage. Great Bardiche is awesome either.

Yeah, as the game has come along (or, as I've learned the play it) I've come to learn the value of non-crushthrough weaponry.
Still curious about low-prof throwing, though. Anyone played with it?
Finally, random question while I've got a thread dedicated to my own ramblings - is there a cap of 10 on each skill?

no, you can go as high as you want i think. i have played a 3/39 build and you can get 13 athletics/wm/shieldskill. same goes for 39/3

Alright team, what do you think of THIS?!
NAKED FANATIC at Level 33 (that's my plan - no retiring for this maniac. Hopefully after a naked career I'll be able to buy looms with pure GP).
Strength: 36

Riding: 2 (for a Sumter to get to the action faster - not for use in combat)

Polearm prof 135.
Will use a polearm - probably the Long War Axe, since I'll be doing enough damage that I won't need its bigger cousin, and would rather have the 1 point of speed.

I'd recommend more ath over more str/ps. If you weren't naked, I'd say go for it and have fun. However, since you want to play naked, speed is helpful even if you're only hindered by your weapon. I'd tone the str down just a bit to get more ath.
Something like 27/15 or 30/12. No need for a lot of ath when you're naked.
Good luck getting to 33 though. Insane grind.

I agree with Taser, get more athletics. @ 33 you could go 27/18 or 30/15, or 24/21 full PS, full Ath, 5 points leftover for what have you.

I have a character that is 36/6 at level 31, and let me tell you that riding a sumpter to battle faster is hella fun. my character exclusively wears dresses (Brunchlady) So it is effectively naked.
But I highly suggest more athletics. at least 5. I'm a strength build for the gimmick of punching people dead while in a dress. And using a scythe.

I average about 2 or 3 hours a night when I play, and I typically play about 6 or 7 nights out of every 14 days. It only took me a couple months to get to 33 doing this. But I play in quite a few strategus battles and you can get some large experience for only an hour or two of a siege (the most I've gotten is like 750k for an hour and a half siege) but I've heard people getting over a million XP in a battle or siege.
