Title: Unfriendly community or is it just normal?
Post by: RabidKoala on October 07, 2012, 03:27:45 am
I don't want to come off as some guy whose whining because he sucks at the game, because I accept I do. But I was booted off a lot of the servers when I asked some people for pointers on combat and the such. I didn't spam chat or anything of the sort, most people just told me to "Stfu noob!" and I was voted to be kicked off.  Then on another server, some guy was on my team and blocking all of my attacks during the "Defend the Virgin" gamemode. I asked politely for him to stop but he just said no. I got a little annoyed but I just ignored him, then one of his blocks missed and I damaged him, and then he quickly vote kicked from the server.  :|

Is there a gamemode or server for this mod for the lower skilled players such as me to play and not get trolled by the "veteran" players? I really do like this mod and it does improve the multiplayer experience a lot, but I feel as if the community wants to keep the noobs out. No offence to the part of the community that ARE actually nice and friendly.

I'm sorry for your unsavoury encounters with the riff-raff part of cRPG. I assure you not everyone is like that.

And if you want to improve my advice to you is this: Duel server, duel server, duel server. Nothing can go wrong with repeated practice. :)

Hope you enjoy your stay!

You are not incorrect. I would say a majority of the players (who chat at least) are cunts. You're experience as a beginner is not unique, you either global mute the motherfuckers (ctrl+shift+m), or individually mute particular offenders through the esc menu, depending on your level of misanthropy. Or just bear down and grind it through until you're not a noob anymore one day. You can get lucky every once in a while and someone will actually be helpful. If so, take a moment to savor the experience, it's the crpg equivalent of a unicorn. If unicorns were real and rare, not completely imaginary.

There is an EU server for lower level characters only, I forget what the limit is but somewhere between 15-20 max I think. But that doesn't mean the players are of low skill level, so if your'e EU it may be worth checking out but you should be fine in the regular servers with more people, may have a better chance of catching a multi wave and leveling up quicker.

You either come into crpg with a thick skin or develop it eventually. Or silence the mongrels that doth offend and pretend it never happens. Then everyone is just a cute little avatar running around banging into each other, no matter how much of an asshole is controlling them behind the screens. Or hell, do yourself a favor and just quit this fucking game. There will come a point where it's too late, point of no return, etc. You don't want that....... nobody wanted that........................ can't...................... get.................................... out......................................

Ctrl-shift-m to mute the chat

sorry, EU community is really awful in this game and very quick to abuse polls, troll, teamkill you, and all these other things.  one of the main reasons new players don't stick with the game.

if you're stuck in EU and don't like having to play with the most insufferable people in any game ever, I suggest quitting cRPG now and playing a game without self-entitled, autistic, horrible people.

Ah okay, I think mute control will help quite a bit haha. And I'll take that advice in mind and try out duel servers as well as learning how to ignore rude people in game. I'm NA btw but I often hop on EU or NA servers if I see that my ping is below 100ish. Thanks guys :)

Try creating a skip-the-fun (start off as a level 30 who doesn't progress through the levels) and find a build/playstyle that you like.  You can continually respec the "STF" until you find something desirable.  Do note that you have limited gold though.  Using the STF in the duel server will allow you to at least have somewhat equivalent stats to the rest of the players.  Playing underleveled is a bit of a nuisance and pretty depressing when you first start out.  However the game slowly becomes rewarding when you become more powerful. If you are planning to play melee, I would suggest getting down manual blocking.

Also, you can always try heading into Teamspeak and ask around clan players if they would like to help/teach (granted you'll come across jerks as well, but there are also plenty who will help out).

Whats your nick ingame?
I often play on DTV eu server. I can say that in general on this server community is friendly especially for new. If you behave well and dont spoil gameplay(with luring bots to virgin, THs on purpose and other shit). When you ask some questions about game, cRPG mod and atrategus ppl usually answer you. I say all this shit cause i am still newbie too (playing couple months). And i found out DTV mode community is very friendly for me. Ppl share their loomed weapons with me, to help me kill bots, gave me thousand advices how to effectibely kill bots and use advantages of maps. So after all that shit now i able to be in first lines in scoreboard each round cause ppl teach me how to play!
Ofcourse there always are some bitches who are raging, trolling, polling, teamhitting on purpose, reporting accidental th, and doing other shit, but those are marginals noone like them. But u always has few options to deal with them. Make ban request thread on forum, say about shit one of admins on DTV (Bjarky is good one!), or just mute abusers. I can say one thing - those who offend on newbies and trying humilate them are total noobs themselves! Those who are skilled players will never do this shit with new player!
So just dont let noobs abuse and humilate u, they are not better than you even if they know about game more!
Just make them shut up, dont be a pussy!

Dont listen guys who advise u to play battle, siege or duel servers. As u new and probably low lvl unskilled player, u will feel only frustrations when they will one hit you with their Masterwork weapon. U can do NOTHING against 33 lvl skilled players. U will die hundreds and hundreds times and will feel like fresh meat for them. You have no money for good armor and weapon, and you have no money to upkeep it. It will be torture, believe me, cause i felt the same when i came here. :)

And then i said wtf: i dont wanna be fresh-meat for those monsters untill i will get money to buy good equipment, and loom some stuff.
I started play DTV, asked ppl about mod, builds, weapon and other cRPG shit. I earned money, retired few times, bought three loomed +3 items, and after that i feel comfortable on battle, siege servers, when my character reaches 25-30 lvl. I just skipped negative experience and frustrations being helpless meat! :)
  Sorry for my shitty English!

Nah NA is great compared to EU, honestly.  When you said you got polls against you I assumed EU, because they LOVE to abuse those things.

Duel server is filled with people who will actually give tips when you are new and want to get better.  DTV server has lots of newer players who talk about what is good for a noob.  Siege is pretty much hands off, no one expects much out of you, have fun doing constant melee in groups and get better.  Battle is for the tryhard spergs, probably the least fun to play until you get better.  If rageball still exists, that is a unique and silly game mode where people are usually friendly too.

Visiting some clans in Teamspeak is a pretty good idea if you like that sort of thing.  Its much easier to be a dick in chat anonymously and much easier to be nice and helpful when you hear a person and talk to them in voice chat, and clans usually suck up to people and help out so you join them and help them in Strategus.  Go sell yourself on the cRPG clan market like a whore today!

you seem to be a very troubled man,  smooth...

anyway:  Rabid,  I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences,  I have personally met a lot of swell people here,  actually most are.  The ones that are not,  stand out so much in their retardation that it rly can get to you.  Just remember those are probably little misguided dumb children that dont get their life straight and take their frustration to the servers to troll people.  Might as well pity them.

The duel server is a great Idea,  you might even find some guys there that will train you. On battle servers,  try to run with a few guys that seem to stick together,  keep a sharp eye and if you are low-level,  try doing a lot of blocking or get a pike and do some support for the guys you hang with.

TS is also great,  ups the gaming experience a lot,  as teaming up makes it so much better.

If the game is appealing to you in any way,  stick with it,  ignore idiots....  you wont regret it.

This is by and large one of the worst communities ive played on in a  while. That's not to say that there aren't a good amount of awesome people out there both on the EU and NA side of the map,but people for the most part are pretty abrasive in this mod. The diplomacy and unban sections are pretty much at an IJJI level when it comes to maturity. Honestly though, just mute chat in game for a while. It's what I did until I picked things up. Also, duels duels duels! This is the best way to practice and work on your game as a whole. Also,

This!

This TS holds a collection of multiple clans from both Eu and NA. I'm sure most of us would be more than happy to have you come in and hang out man.

Best of luck to you out there.

RabidKoala, I suggest you join a clan.
That will give you a few friends who will support you.

try to play dota to get the feeling how an unfriendly community really looks like :)

True. I played a lot of dota 3.7 for reign of chaos.
If you didn't know ALL abbreviations, items and prices you were considered a noob...
That was sick. Especially since I knew 95% of it and was called a noob cause I didn't know the rest...

I guess that is what happens within a very small community.
The majority knows a lot. So anyone not knowing simple things is treated like an idiot.

This sounds really fishy to me as well. Yeah EU has a lot of polls but rarely any succeed in someone getting kicked of the server, unless he was being a major ass. I find that you asking for pointers being a reason for a successful poll against you unbelievable.

The simple fact that someone is able to block your attacks on DtV implies that you are breaking rules. DtV is a wave game mode where you cooperate with your human teammates to defeat AI waves of attackers. If he has to block your attacks, it implies that you are intentionally teamattacking him which is a bannable offense. A votekick is more than justified in this case. Perhaps this guy was griefing you by standing in your way blocking while you were attacking the AI, but it just seems unplausible.

Anyhow, cRPG is a complex mod and there is always lazy people asking loads of obvious questions that a little research could answer in no time. Which might annoy some people, but I sincerely doubt they would manage to get a votekick through for just that.

You might want to reevaluate your own behaviour cause polls dont pass easily. I'd also recommend any new players to read the following topics anyway, to get your cRPG career started smoothly.

http://forum.meleegaming.com/beginner's-help-and-guides/tears-of-destiny's-general-guide-for-new-players/ I can especially recommend section 1 in this case

Few simple rules i follow as good as i can - only been vote-kicked 1 or 2 times in 3 years:

- Always say sorry even for a slightest offence ( like a tiny horse bump ), even if it means you need to stop in the middle of a battle and die while typing.

- If you are the last man standing, and you are aware of that - die asap, whistle like crazy if you are far away or lost.

- Never curse ( this one is hard/impossible, i sometimes boil with rage, and wish i could punch some players through the screen - at that point i just take a break from cRPG for an hour or two )

What a fucking ignorant comment. You don't play on EU so your opinion is invalid. In addition, you are giving this new player a horrendously inaccurate view of the EU side, and what makes it worst is that he will look at your "Admin" title and believe every word you say.

To OP:  Solo play does feel quite intimidating especially for new players, I would advise going into a clans teamspeak (find the address in the Faction Hall section) and talk to them about joining/getting some help with the game. Most clans have regular training sessions and you'll get a lot of good tips from other players. :D

The forums are pretty full of trolls and random assholes who have no sympathy for new players.

That being said, in game and in the forums you will find helpful people, and I think more people are not assholes than are.  It's just that the assholes are so vocal.

Jump in a teamspeak, most factions are relatively friendly to new people, and you will always be able to find someone to help you out.

Keep a thick skin and ignore the trolls and assholes.  If you're really having troubles finding people to help you, you could always add me on steam friends - jjhuseby ... message me on the forums, or jump into our clans teamspeak - IL2.LeetTS.com:10040

We have a few assholes too, but most people will be willing to help a new guy out.

On that note...I really can't think of any decent sized NA faction that would troll or tell a new player to fuck off if they joined their teamspeak (as a whole, I'm sure there's a couple assholes in every faction).

Irrono man. I play this mod 2 years and I never really had a serious problem. I have made 2 ban requests in total and have been intentionally teamwounded maybe 5 times. Then again, I am in NA...

As for people trash talking...well, I suggest turning off the chat. The most useful thing you can get from it is a pointer to this forum. There is a reason I do exactly that. It ain't a "herpderp, I am too mighty and high to give dem n00bz help". Simply enough, chat feints after 20 secs. It is really hard to type anything useful there.

Then again, you could always chill back and enjoy the troll-ey atmosphere. That is what I do.

This is not a battle of eu and na. A new player is pissed bcus some idiots bullied him.

And i can asure that you were just unlucky. If one player wants to kick you out the game it just means that this particular player is an idiot. Most other players just press any number when the pollscreen pops up and continue playing. So dont leave c-rpg. Its a nice game with a great community. And as in every great community there are some ppl just being stupid. I guess thats something we have to live with.

I rattle off nonsense, insults, and other useless stuff in allchat while I play. But if someone asks "how does this skill effect your attacks?" or "what items should I buy, I want to be a infantry/archer/whatever?" I give honest answers.

Haven't seen anyone get kicked from a server for anything other than intentional teamhitting or suiciding naked into the enemy team. On some of the smaller servers, people might votekick you when there's no admins on. If you play on EU_1, EU_2, NA_1, or NA_2 you won't get kicked unless you are breaking the rules.

I used to tell new players that in order to get a higher multiplier you had to buy cRPG soap and that if you didn't use cRPG soap to wash yourself at least one per level your char would die... good times...

My name is Tagora, and my son, RabidKoala, is a ten-year old boy who has Autism. RabidKoala has always been a sweet and non-violent child.  That is why it was so distressing when notes started coming home from chadz, creator of the cRPG mod for Mount and Blade: Warband, stating that he was having violent outbursts, including him hitting his teammates and delaying.

Something was terribly wrong. I felt I was beginning to lose my son – that these outbursts were changing his very nature. I knew my son. I knew this wasn’t him.  I knew I had to find out what was happening in cRPG that was having a dramatic impact on him.

On the morning of Friday, February 17, 2012, I wired my son so I could listen to him play cRPG. That night, when I listened to the audio my life changed forever. I heard my son being bullied by the entire cRPG community including chadz and all of the server admins.

The six and a half hours of audio I had proved that my son wasn’t tking and delaying because there was something wrong with him - he was lashing out because he was being mocked, mistreated and humiliated. His outbursts were his way of expressing that he was being emotionally hurt in cRPG.

It's internet. All dem boys who got robbed for 'em lunch money and shit in the past are bullying people here... In real life they can't fuck with the real niggas so instead they do it in the internets. It's normal these days.

You know it's normal, if you ain't enough of a man to protect yourself / fuck other people up... You gonna get fucked up. There ain't no middle class in life.
