In 1080p! What a good quality you have there, sir.

So, how will this work? You just place it, or do you just add it in maps?

hmm yeah but from looks of video we're only going to be able to make hole in one section rather than destroy a entire wall. obviously I might be wrong but that clip at least is just showing 1 indent in wall rather than total destruction.

Post by: Bjarky on March 14, 2011, 09:18:17 pm
its just some tease trailer, i'm sure they'll put in some more for the normal walls, but it will take some hits, cus of balance (i'm totally guessing out of nothing, just writing what my foretelling dices and tarot tell me ^^)

I can not wait to be inside a tower that is being shelled by catapults, it must be pretty cool and a little scary!

I wasn't aware that people consider me a FAQ nowadays.

What i meant with the question, was if the thing was a placeable item ( like a siege tower ) or if it is placed into the map standard, as in making maps.

Making maps, and you may take that as gospel.

Idk if you've realised it already but it isn't the best idea to have the wooden debrees on the "ground" after falling off. Most walls on terrain aren't exactly leveled and it would lead to some debries being underground and, worse, some floating in thin air.

Otherwise awesome job, this'd be nice to see implemented. I take it you're replacing the current walls with these in a way that you won't need to remake maps? Not that i'd mind having all strategus siege maps balanced along the process...

I support what AdNecrias said. Unless you can suddenly implement proper physics etcetera in the game I wouldn't use debris on the floor either. I do have to say done a great job something I know we've all been looking forward to :)
Title: Re: Walls
Post by: Meow on March 17, 2011, 11:52:54 am
true i didn't think about the walls being on different terrain which makes the stick out or sing into the ground a bit.

deleting those is easy tho

Uhm the game is already running Havok's engine. I think it wouldn't be impossible to implement viable physics.

They tried that back in the beta. They added a box that you could jump on and throw around. Then they removed it because there were too many bugs involved with it.

Ah yes, dynamic_box. I tried it out in the scene editor.

Well it was an assumption, really. Too bad, in that case.

this is an awsome thing to put in and make it realistic as del.

though a few things have to be done:
the trebuchet has to be made useable
the catapult has to be made differently qua working(or make another catapult)
and all the models have to be replaced

Mhhhm is it difficult to make Maps on my Own, because i already solved Betestda's: The Elder Scrolls IV Mod Editor(yes i made my own Mods)
So why not make some Maps and maybe one will get ingame :D

Hmm, I wonder, is it a moving scene prop? Or perhaps several different scene props? If it's a moving scene prop, could it begin at any phase, or just the beginning? Or if it's several scene propa, would the prop of each phase be available to the mappers?

The warband map editor is REALLY a joke, compared to the complexity and power of the TESCS 2. You just have to generate a terrain, then place scene objects, turn and resize them. It can be technically tricky to make everything work (you can find a very good tutorial in the map dev section). But the only real challenge is to create balanced and interesting maps.

@Fyre : is your avatar directed against me ?

no idea about the map editor but i am pretty sure they are available in all stages.

Smells like working trebuchets/catapults with different stages that the scene prop can be in (Not damaged, damaged, ruined).

Very nice :)

quick question, will you be able to ladder through parts of the broken wall or will it stick to where the old wall once stood?

Sorry if this has already been asked?

well this part is entirely my fault as i have to take care of some stuff at the moment and don't really get around to sit down and mod the walls.
i'll try my best to get them done during the next two weeks.

quick question, will you be able to ladder through parts of the broken wall or will it stick to where the old wall once stood?

Sorry if this has already been asked?

collision models should be 1:1 with the actual wall model so they will most likely work with the broken walls.

Another silly question. Does / will it work with all walls and fortifications? Does it work with other buildings as well?
Title: Re: Walls
Post by: Meow on August 20, 2011, 11:56:32 am
yeah basically it should work with everything ingame as long as there are damaged/destruction models for it.
for now it's will be all walls.
Title: Re: Walls
Post by: Warcat on September 02, 2011, 12:34:10 am
One question I have is if the bottoms of the walls will still need to be hit to bring them down far enough for people to walk into, or will people be hitting the indestructible sides of the props at the top causing the middle to magically get lower.
Title: Re: Walls
Post by: MrShovelFace on September 02, 2011, 07:09:49 pm
will this be functional in say.. battle mode
Title: Re: Walls
Post by: Meow on September 04, 2011, 03:49:00 pm
@ Warcat
basically the walls still have hp like before after they lose a certain amount the wall model will switch to the damaged state with some visual effect.
after it takes more damage it will at some point switch to the destroyed state which will open up a v shaped opening in the wall.
real physics and destruction is pretty much impossible in this engine.

@ MrShovelFace
i don't see why not :P kinda depends on the other devs.
i'd like it might unbalance some maps tho.
