Alright guys, I haven't retired since like. The generation nerf, and don't really intend to anymore (I've got errthing I need).
BUT
I like to dress up as a dirty peasant every now and then to abuse the fact that my character now can run around like a flippin' moron. So I dress up in some nice peasant gear to minimize my speed penalties, then tear around the server looking like every other fighter (or peasant).
Now the problem here is; It's not fighting the enemy I have a problem with. I can take on pretty much any kind of opponent, and I usually lose because I mess up. I don't have a problem with that.
Since I tear around in my teal doom butt armor most of the time, I've gotten used to pretending I'm Sauron and cutting swaths through people.
HOWEVER.
I have a problem in cloth because my crazy teammates keep swinging and smacking me upside the head.
So I need help.
How do I deal with that? How do the agility builds/ light armored people NOT die a horrible death by teammate ? Because whenever I'm in cloth, I find that I consistently take over 50% damage from my teammates during engagements.
Do I back off? What are the general strategies people use when in light armor? Because honestly, I haven't a clue how a balance build fights. When I was agility, I used to cherry pick. When I rolled strength, I play Sauron. Now I'm a more balanced build, and I don't know where the happy medium is.
Any help would be amazing.
Thanks!

Well best thing to do in this case is avoid zergs. With balance or even STR build and light armor you're fast enough to be able to pick your own fights. Just run around, keep away from ranged and group fights, find stragglers and annoy/kill them. That's how I played when I played two whole generations in peasant gear (military scythe and tabard armor (+14 body)).
-
Well, what I always try to do is "ninja-ing". Basically, you stay the hell out of the way of your team, because the main difference between your team and your enemies is that you're not supposed to kill them. Chop down a few people on the opposite team's flanks and maybe even charge into the rear of the enemy main group.
There's a small catch though. If the enemy horse archers/xbow"men" happen to go the same way, you're screwed.
-
Backoff when teammates are getting greedy and rushing in for the kills, and look for opportunities when enemies are alone or busy fighting a teammate.
Basically avoid clusterfucks.

Good sir, coming from an experienced peasant there is only one course of action. Long peasant polearms. The scythe for example. The reach keeps you far enough away, and god willing, only you will be doing the teamwounding. True peasants have no fear in this, since we know we will most likely just glance off of our armor crutching teammates. God be with you in your peasant fights.

My shield helps greatly! It is kind of fun just distracting enemy while teammates hack away or shoot them.
It takes skill to not get hit by your team mates
-
Hey hey! Us archers feel the wrath of teammates as well in our light armor. Just earlier today I was dropped from 100% health to 10% or less by teammates "trying to help." Yes I saw that full plate guy moving at the speed of smell head toward me...NO i do not need help running a small distance to avoid him. We all know it's even worse if we dare try and fight him, I for one know I wouldn't have made it out alive. Thanks teammates!
-
You need to get away from your team. Flank and carry some anti cav. Jarids or bamboo. Pick off archers by dodging arrows and sneaking. :) u have to dodge good though, try to move forwards while trying to be truly random in your dodging.
Just dont get involved in the clusterfucks. :)
-
Get in, hit, and dance out.
With "get in" I mean get in the fights lookng like they aren´t decided. For example: If your and the enemys team main Blocks crush together, get in, poke a Enemy from the side or the back while he is fighting a mate, then dance away.Stay the fuck away from Ganking and you will be fine.I rarely get hit by teammates with my Ragged outfit and Boar Spear.

When you're a peasant, feign fight by swinging once at a crowd and deliberately die - rinse and repeat till you level upto the approperiate level.
Works for me everytime, when I die I just go and watch youtube videos or read.

what Thomek said
don't go with the main crowed, flanking for the win, ninja style if your mind is your shield, if like in my case tehre is no mind use a shield :)
but if you go with the main crowd, wait in 2nd/3rd line for those who brake through, stick around corners wait for some flankers to show up
that way the heavy hitters/spammers can kill each other and those who make it through and are most likely scratched already you finish off(beware the master of backstabs the cav)
play range protector(anti cav anti flanker)
edit: this is ment to be for battle servers, on siege carry ladders and look for spots where noone else is there

Expected max distance from the main choke point = (agi/str)² * 20 meters.
One or the corollaries is that when you are 36/3, you ARE the choke point (0.13 meters)

come on Dex... GET GOOD, SON! No, Just kidding. Honestly, always having anywhere from 3 to 15 more agility than str, and just playing in general, I've come to realize that unless I've got a long spear or something similar, with which I can do combat while being out of combat (long pole arm or a ranged weapon), my team is my biggest enemy. If Agi builds are good at anything, it's avoiding the enemy. Translates to: Stay the hell away from your team.
That, and be a kill stealing bastard. Sprint in, overhead, dodge out, move on.

I stay away from my team all the time.
Somehow they find all the fights I get into, then proceed to bash me over the back of my head.
The reason I started using the pike was because I used it as a support weapon for my boys, then I found out I could fight without actually being in the mess of bodies. But I'm trying to keep costs down because I want to give Rhuell his blood money back.
So I just want to learn to play like a regular fighter (plus I have a lot more agi than people think I do) .
-
Get a Boar spear or spear, poke Enemies in their back while they are fighting single comrades, profit.
Dunno bout NA, but in EU you can mostly avoid big fights and go for the single duels or the 1vs2 things to help your buddy out.

as i spent most of my time as a 12-24 shielder (with a few 9-27 and 12-27 and 15-24 stints) usually wearing a blue gambeson... i think i can safely say i know exactly what you are talking about, doubly so as i generally shouldnt have to point my shield at my teamates in order to avoid horrible death. I also feel extra qualified as when the ATS servers were up and keeping track of stats, i was the most TKd player on the battle server for a long time.
anyways, i have found a tried and true 85% effective method to avoid dying to teamates. i say 85% because there are always huey newton who are going to try and help you defeat the archer who has no melee wep that you are in the process of murder, as well as the unicorn archers who will fire madly at the opponent you are stabbing to death... at anyrate the secret to avoiding death to teamates is to avoid teamates. i like to run off on my own and fight 5 or so enemies at a time, this way i am almost garunteed to die to enemies instead of teamates, also my enemies are likely to hurt each other. so yeah, thats the secret... rambo off on your own and stay the hell away from teamates... if you find yourself fighting 2v1 (as one of the 2) against a competent player, and you dont have a shield to hide behind, then i recommend running away in terror before your teamate kills you.

Ho that wasn't directed x)

In cloth armor, your options are pretty much...
work with your clan mates, who know how to work with you, or...
ninja
That's pretty much it. Engaging in full melees with the random cRPG teams is asking to be backstabbed to death by your team mate.
-
Ideally, you develop an attitude of forgiveness equal to that of Gandhijesus... Actually, I'm pretty sure that was what I did. I don't remember ever trying to avoid getting team killed.
-
flank, run away if you're being overwhelmed by their numbers. if you get in one of the more spread out melees where you can survive, switch targets a lot and support your buddies when an enemy turns his back or readies an attack too early. you can get into a melee but you have to have a really good feel for when people are actually paying attention and noticing you, and you have to position yourself well too. play dirty, pretend to be afk or turn your back if some cav dude isn't stupid enough to go one on one with an agi build greatsword user, pretend not to notice people coming up behind you, set up ambushes around corners and so on. stay the fuck away from heavy cav, if some plate armor asshole on top of a plated charger is coming at you there really isn't much you can do once he realizes his bumps take off half of your health.
don't think about this shit when you're actually playing, you really need to just get a feel for what you can do and when you should do it. i'm probably forgetting some shit, but it's honestly mostly just learning from experience imo
as for the teamhitting stuff specifically, you just have to be really careful about how you engage. i honestly hardly ever find myself getting teamhit by friendly melee anymore. archers, throwers, and cav are a different story but i think everyone has that problem
-
KILL THE TEAMMATES FIRST!
-
I don't think anyones mentioned this, but you can fight fine in the main group without a long weapon.
You've probably noticed most deaths happen due to getting ganged. You are that mobile gang. Unless you're fighting a clan with teamwork *cough us* a big clusterfuck is really just lots of mini duels. So what I tend to do is flit between them and throw in a hit, or just distract. The main worry is not to get tunnel vision on just one guy and try to kill him, cause as you've noticed, your teamates are gonna kill you instead.
Course, a long spear makes this soooo much easierXD But I do (did) this occasionally with a grosse messer.
-
I used to be a peasant in disguise, then I took an arrow in the knee.
-
urrr... yes. And the Guards could be a bit nervous when you run around with a drawn weapon... right?
-
As a low armor guy since, forever, I can tell you this: Your biggest enemy are your allies. Avoid the zerg, hang in the back, go around, blah blah, just avoid the "friendly" ball of death.
-
Usually it is a good Idea to follow Leshma or Chase if they playing.
-
Or stick with me, as long as I am not playing my Alt. :D
I wont teamhit you, as long as you don't run in my line of fire. :D
-
I'd love to, but as a NA player, I'm probably going to get you killed somehow.
-

Your signature quote is attributed to the german poet Friedrich von Schiller
the exact quote is "Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain."

Thanks Jeanne. I am not into poetry that much. Nice to know.

thats where I found it. (Had to check the noun for "stupid", since "Stupidness" was sounding strange.)
