I believe this needs to be changed.
lvl 26 people exploiting it by respeccing to continuesly wear high end expensive gear round after round.
for example. on our Australian server we have 1 person who continuesly uses cata, full milanese. And those 5 other levels do not do jackshit to a decent player. Especially to a cav who can be basically unaffected by the 5 less levels. When he is dismounted he just turtles behind his shield and backpeddles etc.
I reckon it should be lowered to 20-21. You earn more than enough money as you reach that level.
-
To be honest I've noticed quite a lot of heavy cav on EU1 lately too... It's ok when there's one elephant tincan around, but when there's 5+...
No upkeep should stay until lvl 26, but after first respec that bonus should be gone.
-
people are exploiting it to play crpg the way they want to, with all the armour and cool stuff without having to worry about stupid penalties. Back in the day crpg didnt have upkeep and there were a few plated dudes running around.
Upkeep makes this game only half as cool as it could be.
-
Will be fixed soon. Will probably send some pocket thieves to the exploiters, too.
-
I'd agree with moving it to level 20 or 18 or so. I know people who did a respec of their first character at around level 25 just to build up more cash. I could certainly see someone doing this over and over and over.
In the long run you'd be better off just retiring and building up a full suit of heirloomed gear but in the short run INFINITE MONEY.
Stopping it at level 18 would give new players a decent leg up on cash without creating such a potential to be a permanent tin can.
And yes, I am a fan of upkeep. A game of 100% tin cans would lack the variety that helps make the game appealing.

for instance i do play heavy cav now aswell, since i cannot ride any of the useful light horses due to recent changes in difficulty...do not blame something on stuff it might not be related to at all  (i am certainly not lvl 25 or lower, nor gen 1, and most of the heavy cav people i see i know are higher gen aswell, so they are just having fun)
-
i dont understand why so many cav are so adverse to going 18/18

you can have quite versatile build with 18/18, both for cav or others
-
I used to be 18 18 since the start of cRPG. I had to change to 15 21 to be able to use my loomed Arabian. I miss 18 18.
-
I've seen amazing number of people in full plate riding plated chargers for days long. This is definitely exploiting. There is no freaking way they can sustain such loss of gold even if they are freaking millionaires.
-
Since i started using heavy horse, i lost just like 20k on the long run, so it is not that bad at all, you know, it does not break every round and such :)
-
remove respecc from gen 1
-
Instead of crying about it jibly why don't you use that enhanced brain of yours and consider that retiring ONCE gives you enough money selling your heirloom even underpriced to afford full plated cav upkeep for an entire generation. "Exploiting" upkeep will make you maybe 20-30k between levels 21-26 (the level u go back to when u respec) and is definitely not the fastest way to make cash. For the record I respec to a completely new build every time I hit 26 as I have the attention span of a LETS RIDE BICYCLES!

Calm down now mordy mordy. I used my enhanced brain to recognize a problem with the current upkeep system that many others have noticed, i'm sorry if you don't like what will happen to you character.
I am to believe as you just confirmed to me ingame. Your main is the one you continuesly respec and keep under 26. Gen 1 ofc. And you talk alot ingame about stuff you sell in marketplace. Yes you change build alot, but your still exploiting the fact that you are losing no money with any of the gear you are using. With losing no money you gain more money to splooge in marketplace. i am to believe you also just bought an heirloomed long espada.
Yes ofcourse it may be easier to earn money by selling loom points. but you are going to lose that money pretty quick using high end gear cos you dont have the no upkeep under 26 rule anymore.
Were people like you and daniel san can keep under lvl 26 earn money, with that char as your main eventually you can buy all your heirlooms. and have fully heirloomed gear after a long time and still be able to have no upkeep on any of it.
post typed up quick between rounds of games so mite no make complete sense, but the general idea im trying to portray should be somewhere in that jumple of mumbojumbo
-
I would have to play this non stop for about 12 months to get several million gold, enough for a few decent heirlooms. Besides, I make money on the market place through wise investments on non loomed gear, not splurging vast sums obtained by exploiting. I bought that espada by talking down the guy who was selling it, and I made the money trading plated chargers for the last two months. Thanks for your assumptions though. I don't care how they fix it, I agree it should be reduced to level 21 no upkeep, however I take offense to potentially having funds removed as if I was cheating.
-
The thing is, why would you do it if not for the edge you get for having no upkeep, if you wernt exploiting this fact you wouldnt do it in the first place.
and dont say some bullshit response like 'im testing new builds' cos its a load of rubbish.
Like you said you dont need to keep respeccing to earn your money, so stop exploiting it. Simple.
Having money removed from you would be your just desserts, it's your own fault. Although you may have made most of your money from wise decisions on the marketplace, over 2 months you earn a shitload with no upkeep.
There is only 1 reason you keep respeccing like that, and its obvious, your not fooling anyone.
-
You've basically ignored everything I've written, and spouted off your own gibberish. For the last time: I respec because I like to change play styles. That's the reason I deleted my Mordaunt_V character when STF first came in, so I could change play styles frequently, back when you had to just have one character for STF. That character had four heirloom points and was gen 6. You tell me I do this shit just for money? I would make far more money retiring and selling heirlooms. I would have squillions by now. I don't. I have 50k plus a single +1 heirloom. Stop trying to ruin a legitimate play style just because it isn't yours.
-
Not having to pay upkeep until lvl 26 is there to help out new players building up a certain amount of gold and buy decent gear before they start paying upkeep. If you're not a new player and u re-spec'ed X number of times, then you are exploiting this. I agree that you're not making tons of money but you're still exploiting a "tax-free" way of playing with whatever gear you want which, with the amount of time you played the game, you should not be able to do. We don't care about the amount of gold you have, you still exploited something that was there for new players, not for anybody to play as he likes (ex: black armor on plated charger) without loosing money.
You can also use the STF fonction. You can't say you exploited this to test out new builds.
-
Another way would be, that you always pay tax if costs reach a certain level. Doesn´t matter then if you are below or above level 26. Could be a value around 15k~
-
The simplest solution would be to just do what vibe said and remove no-upkeep as soon as you respec. It's actually incredibly simple to implement as well. Just add a flag in the conditional for ignoring upkeep that gets set whenever you respec. However, even though it could be done in minutes, it will still be days if not weeks of fun of lol respec characters. To be honest, I think these characters have actually made the game slightly more fun. But maybe that's just because it hasn't gotten old for me yet. Maybe I'll luck out and have them disappear as soon as I get bored of them

Upkeep was implemented with good reason. Numerous AUS players abuse the 'no upkeep' system. Daniel_San, perhaps even Rogue_Duellist?
-
ya there should be a respec limit and the problem is solved
i wonder how many tin cans would disappear lol
ive actually seen a full plate on a plated charger....shooting a cross bow.........thank god he sucked ass assuming he lost what little wpf he had to his armor
-
how bout we can buy ingame gold for real money? would solve all the upkeep whining
/troll off

This is not about "upkeep whinning" but whinning against ppl that can get away from upkeep. Anyway, I saw a couple of devs posts saying it will be fixed soon. No more no-upkeep exploiters soon :P
-
That might even be legal (selling ingame gold for real money), as you can only spend this gold on the website, not in the mod.
-
It's not only plated chargers or other cav.
The amount of people with full plate and flamberge or something similar has also increased. Currently playing on server 1 and there were about 8 guys with full plate, most of them having names I've seldomly seen before :/
-
the whole reason the upkeep was put up to stop these people, now they found a loophole in the system to continue doing it....
so y is we were whining?

I've kept myself between level 22 and 28 for about a month by respecing to test new builds.
I'm not gen 1.

isn't having reduced/lowered stats a tradeoff for having good armour and shit?
-
Well i personally do see this as a whine, as the people say: buu huu they dont have to pay and i do
just get over it, those 4lvls can complete your build and as you will have more points totall, you are in advantage already, just use it:) If they want to go plateflambergs on lvl <26, let em...not like its not fun ganking em/being ganked by 3 flamcans
-

hmmmmmm full black armor tank guy who does not pay for it (or any other equipment he wants arb chargers etc)
or
guy who cant even afford full black armor but has 5 more points in skills n attributes........
i would have to say the full pl8 guy has the advantage just my opinion

Lame. :( First time I've been able to acutally get some new gear in ages. If this whole people wearing armour and riding horses thing is such a massive problem why not just remove them from the game.
I just respeced 2 of my chars. Made my main a 1h/shield/cav and changed my archer to try out 10PD and I still don't have and won't have enough wpf for a couple more lvls for all the PD. The only reason I felt okay about deleting over 9000 million xp was not coping up keep while I rebuilt my main (the archers upkeep costs are non existant anyway).
The no upkeep untill you are into the final stretch is a blessing not a curse. It allows you to play with your build more and really test stuff out.
I remember under the old, dictatorial regime of upkeep that I would spend hours and hours in peasant gear with a god damn stick just so I would get some new armour. It took me almost a week to get a set of heraldic transitional, I gave up on ever getting a horse, and then I just whored myself on the street untill a friend would front me the gold.
Please chadz don't throw us back into that nightmare.
So again I say, please, please, please don't listen to the whining anitpodean wretch! Reduce the lvl to 25 or 24 but don't ditch it all together, its a good thing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT:
The one thing I still don't understand at all is this idea about allowing people to play what ever build they like but at the same time forcing everybody into the same narrow band of gear and skill set ups. Its starting to feel more and more like a slight change on native than its own unique multiplayer experience. I know strat is coming but that means little when the strat servers will be behind 400ping high wall of lag.

OH EM GEE! ITZ GETTN WORSE!
Suck me sideways! More and more people are abusing this mechanism! Currently, even one of the admins is doing it too! WTF!!!
List in Australia:
-Daniel_San
-n00b_Rogue_Duellist
-Archers_are_so_very_lame (admin)
Out of the typical 12 or so players we have at any given moment, you could imagine how immensely the balance would be bent over and railed.
-
dangah i do not think they mean they will remove the respec. i think its gonna be set up in a way that if you do it a certain amount of times you will have to start paying upkeep.it will still be there...its just its not free anymore if your under 25
but thats just what ive gotten it i cant really speak for the devs
