Title: Could a shield bash mechanic be added to crpg?
Post by: Herald_Hardrata on September 20, 2011, 03:56:34 am
I'm just wondering because the animations for archers were changed in crpg, it seems like it'd be possible to add a shield bash animation as well. You could have the command replace the kick function for shield wielders, and perhaps add a bit of blunt damage.

Just curious if this is a possible / reasonable addition to the crpg experience. I know it'd make combat more interesting. Especially since we have bucklers in game already, and those commonly doubled as a nasty punching weapon.

First off, bad poll.

Second off, this goes into the suggestions board. But I'm sure you knew that.

Polls with manipulative answer choices (Yes, I'm awesome. / No, I smell.) are completely ignored by the devs - just like all other polls.

I tried it in Brytenwalda, and I hated it.

Voted no because it's the opposite of what you wanted. Make better polls.

A shield bash would be great.

Similar to the kick (with a timer on it) but a bit larger radius.

Can I please get some more bias with that poll?

How aboot:

Ya know, something with less bias, and more options.  For argument's sake, n'shit.

Brytenwalda's shield bash sucks because of the way it is done; a way that is not at all what the OP is suggesting, thus irrelevant.

NO, if you want to get "realistic" you can go stand in a line with the other shielders and fight another line of shielders and benefit the team, in real life a lone shielder (9/10 shielders in crpg are lone shielders) would be picked off in a heartbeat.

Erm. How's that different from lone "insert class here"?

They should so just add a gigantic spike on my shield and make it do something like couch so i can impale all as i turtle through i gigantic crowd.
Or shield mounted minigun, that would be good to.

Ohhhh and a batman utility belt, that would be useful!

Shield bash and 'bottom pole strike'(Hitting with the blunt end of a polearm) are two of the many things that have been lacking in the m&b combat engine. This is a must have if the animations can be made and implemented properly.

Also pommel strike for 1h no shield and 2handers. And bow bashing. Dunno what xbows should get? (maybe they can keep the lame kick)

Bow what now?

Bow bashing. Bow whipping. Really spent a lot of time deciding which name to go for. Basically a whack/push with your bow instead of the kick.

A lone shielder couldn't survive? What about Arminus, who sat in a tavern with his shield and survived?

it'd be cool if kick for shielders became a shield bash animation(and maybe was slightly faster than a kick to give a boost to the often crying shielder lobby)

Or.. I can smash the bottom of my polearm into the ground, shout 'BEGONE!' and have an earthquake effect cause knockdown to everyone in a 5m radius.

LOL what? This is a joke right?

And idea is nice. This mod shouldn't be all about Two Handers anyways.

a lone shielder would get tackled and stabbed to death

And a lone Two Hander would fare any better?  He wont even have anything to stop ranged weapons or block attacks like a shielder. Stop dreaming.

Shielders are way too underpowered in this mod because of the four directions. Same with spears. Has nothing to do with accuracy really, more with the game.

I like the idea of a shield bash, but...

- it's a lot of work to get that kind of animation kicked in, to make it cause a bump and then to balance it.
- Devs spent so long balancing the classes, they dont need to balance shielders or give them anything (or at least its not a priority I imagine)
- it would cause probably a mass of uproar and hate to a class which is generally accepted as balanced and well thought out

Its a nice idea but maybe wait for crpg 2 :P

Bad job on the poll, a better set of options would be

- Yes, good idea
- No
- No
- No
- No
- No

No matter what the real opinion is, it will at first appear to favor yes.

See here (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,16518.0.html) for an example.

a lone two hander/polearm would destroy any shielder outside of a formation IRL, unless the shielder was an extremely good fighter. also shields are not "underpowered" shields are perfect the way they are just strong enough to give people who cant block just enough life support to hopefully get a few kills. the reason i assume it is "underpowered" is because people with axes can come break your auto block and that makes u a sad panda ); . (inb4 "you just suck at fighting so u QQ on shielders!) i do rage at shielders alot, or i did before i figured out how to fight them
