Post by: Ardean on January 22, 2011, 03:28:15 pm
Now we have druzhina armour, arabian armour, even ninja armour! So why not add some of these pearls as well? :)

I like them a lot.  Though, and just throwing this out there early on so it can be discredited by the third page, the second one looks a little minstrel-y to me.

Haven't people always dressed like that in Scotland?  At least, up until the arrival of The GAP in 1969.

2nd one is MORE epic

Discredited.

It really would be awesome and make the claymore worth using, and scottish sword, if it gets a leather "loop" to connect it player body, currently it hangs in air.....

I Say yes, to the top armours ask for the bottom ones they seem too flashy(Especially the black one, it looks to like glamrock or rocker) like renaissance erra. Plus, the byrnie is celt like armor and I'd say figure a way to add/edit the byrnie to make a better medium armor then the bottom two.

Title: Re: Highlander Armour
Post by: MrExxc on April 19, 2011, 06:11:54 pm
My only concern is that these armors come from a package chadz already went through, since they were with the claymore and the sword of war if I'm correct (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,145074.0.html (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,145074.0.html))
So maybe there was something wrong with them when he tested them, I mean who would add a claymore without a goddam kilt?! (I say chadz since I don't know who's responsible for testing ig assets etc., so don't blame me devs)

Add those please! And if we need to make new ones 'cause these don't fit, just say it, I'm sure one of us can do it!

Very nice work, showin armour frm my homeland.

1 problem, this style of armour in Scotland wasnt around until much much later than the "medievil" theme frm warband so kinda kills that feeling.

This would go nice in a Musket (very very early musket) type mod.

You can't, this armor only supports ONE(The one shown) skin type last I heard, so if you have another skin colour, it goes all wrong and looks complete garbage.

That is why it hasn't been added :S

The arms are a tanned white complexion on the armor while if you had an arab or a black in highland armor it would neither make sense nor look good. I say add some skin oriented clothes to keep up the roleplay, and have less african samurai french knights.

Skin oriented clothing will never be added as it would just clutter up the inventory screen, and be confusing.

I can see where your coming from. But it's not necessarily true. However the point made about milanese plate does suggest that highlander could be implemented....but if it is then why not add chinesse, korean, mongolian, aztec, classical era armors. it's just too much. The game does need more diversity I agree on that point, but i'd prefer more varietty styles on what is already implemeted.

We could even add samurai armors! oops...

Highlander gears are much more in the atmosphere in which we play than samurai and ninjas.
Even more, if kilt could replace samurai armor then we could have a general atmosphere, because it's so ridiculous to see a samurai with an axe and a shield...

I don't care, I don't wish to wear a kilt and run ass naked with a claymore, and i don't care of samurai, but if find senseless to debate on a general atmosphere or time period while there is none of this when I get on server, only i see is viking vs ninja, conquistador vs persian, samurai vs knight, etc...

Title: Re: Highlander Armour

They show skin, and the devs have supposedly said no armors can show skin. This is due to the fact that it looks a bit funky if you make the armor's skin one shade and the character's skin is a different shade. It would also be complicated to make female versions of armor that shows skin.

to answer this Scots didn't wear anything remotely close to this during medieval period. Kilts started being worn around 1680. it's like the reason many don't ever wanna see roman/ancient greek armor. It's just retarded. IMHO even samurai shit should go. Feel like I'm watching/playing deadliest warrior. Pure retardation.

Don't really understand  why these haven't been added.

As long as we have flamberges, greatswords, bucklers,  sidesword, espadas, gothic plate etc, i don't mind some authentic highlander-scottish armors, even if they are of late period. I don't think they would look as out of place as ashtray bucklers for example.

After all, Hollywood did it's job , this is how the majority would imagine a scottish warrior =)   :

As long as we have flamberges, greatswords, bucklers,  sidesword, espadas, gothic plate etc, i don't mind some authentic highlander-scottish armors, even if they are of late period. I don't think they would look as out of place as ashtray bucklers for example.
Every item you mention there are about two centuries or more younger than these (otherwise beautiful) armors which falls into the Early Modern period.

Probably more like  mere 60-70 years if you take the dusk of  full plate armours and the first acccounts of kilts being used (wiki states it's 16th century, this is pic is presumably 1630  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e2/Scottish_mercenaries_in_the_Thirty_Years_War.jpg ). Broadsword appeared in the late 16th century, claymores not later than the 15th century afaik.

All i'm trying to say is i don't think these well-made armours will look out of place.

I would like to see more well made armours added aswell.
And personally i think, any melee weapon and armor made before 17th century would fit well enough.

The claymore model in-game is 15th century yes, the flamberge is first half of the 16th century, the buckler is 13th century, the in-game espadas are 15th century, the Gothic plate is 15th century, and the sidesword is used as early as 15th century but I can't find the precise dating of the model used in cRPG (but it looks 15th century to me).

The kilt and dress in the pictures are 17th century, ie. the 1600s, so still a century and a half older than the Gothic Plate model in-game and at least a century older than the flamberge. A 100 years is a very long time especially at this point in history where we go from the Late Middle Ages to the Renaissance and Early Modern Period.

And the leather armors in the OP are of course pure Hollywood fantasy  :)

Barring the leather armors I like the items and the 17th century too, but it's stretching it a lot to have it together with Middle Age items.

Angy summed up what I was trying to say. This game is mostly early to late medieval period in terms of weapons and armor but highlander kilts would be going into renaissance and quite frankly if you want this go play mount and musket...

the second 1 is exactly the kinda armor I always wanted. Only could it plz have a kilt and a black pants version. Im not a big fan of Scotland nor Highland, but holy mother of christ did the second armor on the pic look awesome from the top. It just needs some black leather pants and than its perfect, imo.

So.

Now that we have Landsknecht or whatever it's called armour that doesn't have anything to do with our medieval "timeperiod" (which also has japanese, ninja, now a viking helmet, byzantine etc etc stuff) we could also put this armour in....

ninja armour!

Really where is it? We might be playing different games. There is no ninja armor in this game, there is only "retarded ninja" wich is a combination of different equipment.. wich in fact doesnt look like ninja.

/Edit..

Did I just quote 1,5 year post..?

I would love to see these ingame, they look amazing.

Alot of stuff in this game that really doesn't belong like samurais with axes or plate helmets and imo alot of the armors in this mod look retarded.

I will say these armors actually look pretty nice and would fit well into crpg.

I'm not scottish but I vouch these armors.

I LOL at the tard babies talking about this armor being out of period. We have shit from all over the damn spectrum. From like 800AD to 1600s. Especially with the new Black Armor that has been added. So anyone saying this is out of period needs to go back to school.

I'm sure I've seen a mod or two that use WSE to make armor normal, but change the skin with the character's skin.

Black characters would have black skin, not a mish-mash.

Honestly, who cares for looks in cRPG?

I see people mixing the golden Khergit armours with open sallets, or mixing Arabian and Viking stuff. And apparently it's cRPG tradition to create the ugliest face you can. Just take a look at Gnjus, Meow, UGLYBASTARD or Leshma. And I hate Kerrigan's blonde slut, too.

So who cares for some white knees with a black head. A friend in a kilt looks weird anyway.  :?

I love that helmet, but it looks better with a leather jerking, leather vest, leather armor, nomad vest or padded leather. Then its all Mad Max II ish.
