Other Worthy Games?

Hi folks,

First off, so I don't draw flames, cRPG MBW is hands down the most addictive game I've ever played. I love it. I don't think I'll be leaving the game any time in the future, as it's totally free and kicks the tar out of most pay-to-play games.

That being said, is anyone out there playing another game that they'd recommend? I'm looking for another one to kill the time, when I tire of the intensity of manual blocking and arrow dodging. Here are some titles I've enjoyed, and if you've got similar interests and can suggest something else, please do:

Dragon Age
Elder Scroll Series
Dark Age of Camelot
Medieval: Total War (Including I & II, and Rome)
Warhammer Online
(sorry) World of Warcraft
Fable

Try other Bioware RPG's (including oldies).

And ALL Paradox Interactive games. They are all masterpieces of their art.

This is just a list of what's on my desktop:
Homeworld 2 (old)
Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne
Starcraft II
Company of Heroes Online (beta)*
Battlefield 2 (old)
War Rock
Star Wars Galaxies (the old version that is being run by players)
Halo 2 PC
World of Tanks (beta)*
Minecraft*
Counterstrike Source
Left 4 Dead 2

The ones with stars are games that are unique, like Warband, imo. Can't say anything about your list (DAoC is pretty old; was good, WoW is a lifestyle not a game, never played the others)
And our time is flyin' see the candle burnin' low
Is the new world rising, from the shambles of the old

Only the expansions or community-mod packs. Don't ever buy a paradox game that is the first in the series, or was released in the past 3 months.

^ This. Those two studios still take up most of my gaming time. Though Paradox games need some time to breathe so don't try them when they've just been put out. I'd highly recommend trying out the Europa Universalis and Mass Effect (which only very slightly edges out DA) series from these studios.

Also agree with the recommendation on The Elder Scrolls but the updating of Fallout is amazing too.

Since you see seem to like RPGs, I'd very highly recommend The Witcher. It has great combat and graphics and an amazing story and they outshine even Bioware when it comes to making choices. For nearly every major plot choice I really had to think about it and there was nearly never a clear cut superior response. That is, a lot of the time you don't know what the 'good' or even the 'evil' choice is. On a couple of them I just walked away because I couldn't decide.

The Civilization series is also really addictive if you're into turn-based strategy. Oh, and Sid Meier's Pirates! is a great deal of fun and has something in it for pretty much everyone.

Valve's Team Fortress 2 was the multiplayer game I was addicted to prior to Warband. Don't think I'd be adding anything by recommending the Half-life series but I still recommend it. Portal however is by far my favorite Valve game and is probably the funniest game I've ever played.

And if you've never tried it, Braid is also an amazing game and will bend your mind.

Nobody ever mentions the Gothic series... OK, the third one was a bitch to play with all the bugs, and the first and second have unconventional controls, but the atmosphere, storyline and characters beat everything else I can think of.
If you can't handle decade-old control systems and graphics, try Risen. It's pretty much the same, just looks better, easier to control, and unfortunately has a completely different world than the Gothic series (copyright reasons, but same developer team)

Also, when it comes to RPGs, Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas can't be ignored. The third one was a bit empty and boring for my taste, and never played Tactics and the console shit Brotherhood of Steel.

As many good games were mentioned already, I will name good ol' games, that still are worth playing;
Planescape: Torment
Deus Ex (the first one was good, and I'm hoping for third one to be as good as original)
Arcanum
Thief series
Knights of the Old Republic series
Witcher (a single game atm :o) series (as Witcher was mentioned already, I'll name Alpha Centauri instead)
Call of Cthulhu: DCoTE
System Shock / Bioshock series (of which I played only Bioshock 2, but heard good things about earlier games)

Rune is an old game now available for free. In some ways it has better multiplayer combat than M & B because you can dismember people and chase after them while they desperately look for a health pickup to restore thier limbs... or you can beat people with thier own heads/arms. The hit detection is definately more responsive, and there is no such thing as spamming or block crushing. Indoor maps like castles with secret doors and catapults are particularily badass. You can also throw your weapons and your weapons can also use cool rune powers, if you pick up enough runestone power ups. You can also climb around and platform tomb raider style. Singleplayer is totally worthless, however.

Thanks guys. I think I'll pick up Witcher here shortly.

As for those who mentioned the Thief series... lol. That definitely brings up old memories. Forgot to put that series on the list!

Tbh the witcher is not worth buying. The fighting is awful and the quests and progress in the game feels like a scripted mmo game. ;(

If you want i could give you my cd-key :P

Bioware still makes RPGs?

I thought they just made dating sims nowadays.
