Oh it will delete a character, the character you're changing the name to, as it has been since the name change was there.

Ok, some questions:

1, My char is gen 3 do I keep the exp bonus I gained from my pre-patch retirements? Or will I lose them if I retire now using the "without bonus" option.

2, Since I've retired twice, do I get to heirloom two items (or one item twice) now that heirlooms have reset?

Uhh that needs some very hard thinking...
1. Of course you loose all your bonus because you lost every bonus with every single retirement.
2. 2 retirements = 2 modifer, 2/3 = 0,66, rounded up = 1, So you get five items ten times heirloomed

Reading this explains the behaviour on the servers a lot. BRAAAINZZZ

If you choose Retirement Without Bonus you simply delete your character. Your heir is generation one and receives no equipment whatsoever. Just done it.

I think it's completely reasonable to ask for a very clear-cut document on exactly what retirement is and how it affects your character. I was drawn to cRPG about 2 1/2 weeks ago by a friend. I've enjoyed the game so far, but finding clear answers on certain subjects is nearly impossible. This thread is a perfect example. Players are left speculating about what may or may not happen. What's the issue with making a post containing exactly what retirement is? There shouldn't be any secrets here. A community this small can't afford the luxury of misinformation.

I was wondering if retiring this way links to the way people who retired pre-patch got to chose a certain number of new heirlooms depending on how many times they've retired already. So I had retired twice pre-patch and got to chose 1 new heirloom but someone who had retired say 10 times got to chose more.

So for example you retire 3 more times without any bonuses and on the 3rd retirement you get to chose a new heirloom?

Not sure if I explained myself very well there, but I hope someone will get what I mean  :P

So your sock puppet has already said, with no explanation why.
EDIT: Oh I get it - because I retire and keep the same name - but what if I want a new character with a new name? Is that allowed?

So i did the name change, but now I can sign in with both my old name and new name and they both have the same stats and items. BUT i cannot access the chars in game.

PLEASE HELP ME.

edit*: now my old char is gone, but i cannot use my new char in game, although it shows up fine on .net

It was the gender switching bug. Please fix this.

Also, you cannot/don't have to change the name any more.

I think people were thrown off by this statement. chadz meant that when you retire you don't have to change your name to make a new guy but you will still have the option. They are changing the retirement naming from pre-patch (i.e. start at "name" retire to "name_I" to "name_II")  so you can retire with character "name" to character "name" without any problems.

Please correct me if I am wrong

You can't change your name like you used to per retirement. Take advantage of chadz's deal to change character names within the next 7 days now!

That's bullshit, I did it this morning after it was released and your xp is reseted to 0, nothing else changes. You are still the same generation as before, keep all your stuff and gold.
