Guess I just want to hear what you think is the single best weapon of its class for the upkeep price.
I am generally thinking allround.

Upkeep wise I'd say Sarranid Sword & Waraxe are the best.
Both cost under 2k so their upkeep is negligible. Sarranid sword does little damage but is long and highly spammable while waraxe is as bit slow but has the power.

I like the Knightly Arming Sword for 1h and of course the barmace for 2h. I also sometimes use a longsword instead of the mace. They're all pretty cost efficient.

Heavy throwing axes are reasonable priced and just awesome. For polearms...of course the pike.

Just go naked... You get the most gold that way.

If you want another answer... I think throwing axes are pretty good.

Long Hafted Spiked Mace, a.k.a THE FISTER is an awesome buy. If you like polearms, it's cheap, fast, packs a hell of a punch, has good reach and knockdown. It's blunt damage too so you crush through armor like butter. I like to pair it with a pike for poking people in big team fights when you cant be swinging around your FISTER LIKE A MAD MAN. And the quarter staff for when you need to face off against a katana spamming archer and need something fast.

Yeah, in fact, comparing the Long Hafted Spiked Mace to the Bec I'd actually say it's OP for this price.
Longer, faster, practically the same damage, and knockdown. Sure, not the best for figthing in groups, but that sounds more like a tradeoff actually than a half as good weapon.

I would have to say the Italian sword is the sword for cheap basturds, its like the side sword, longer too but alittle slower and little less damage

Imo, for the current upkeep system, naked guy with throwing weapons get the most bang for your buck.

For two hand I'd say bastard sword. I'ts dang good for it's price. I'd go so far as to say it's one of the best weapons in 2h period. I prefer it over many of the longer reach swords for its speed. It's got enough damage and range to not be useless like the Katana, which is way more expensive. Plus you can still hold a shield with it to block arrows.

For Polearm I've been loving the Long Voulge.  It's got a ridiculous reach, which makes up for its slow speed.   I has awesome damage, and it's pretty cheap.
