The longer I play the more I think K:D hasn't much to do with your actual skill as a fighter. I've seen some very good players get nowhere on the kills table while others who are at the top, when I get the chance to fight them one on one myself, aren't the fearsome opponents I expected but just spammers. K:D is what happens on battle servers which is basically a ganking contest.

While I agree that K/D is not 100% end-all be-all for skills (especially if playing a support class), one must keep in mind that there is a difference between making a Duelist build and a Battle build, as well as how you can adapt to each. Some people are great duelists but rubbish in battle and vice versa, as it requires different skills and favors different builds. BkS_Rhade for example is hellish to duel, but his sub-par battlefield awareness when compared to his dueling skills makes him get ganked more often then he should in battle.
